I am grateful for our infinite, ever - hanging sky. Looking up at the sky is one of the quickest and most effective ways I found to reset my mood. Whether it is bright blue with a few white puffs, or muted gray and heavily charged with moisture, our infinite sky is always here to point out that I am just a tiny speck in the universe. My daily tribulations shrink back to their rightful, mostly inconsequential place in the big scheme of things. Big Bend National Park in West Texas is as isolated as it gets in the lower 48. It lies on the Mexican border and the nearest big city airport is over 5 hours away. This isolation also means it is truly wild--and dark. In fact, it is one of only fourteen gold-tier international dark sky parks in the world. This means that amateurs like me can capture the night sky with even the most basic camera. I camped in the Chisos Basin, surrounded on all sides by the jagged peaks of the Chisos, and I spent the night marveling at the universe, which I could see more clearly than I'd ever seen before (until the clouds rudely rolled in to block my view!). #wearespecks #wookierunsamerica
