Horror stories have a long history of paralleling raw, painful human experiences, and Silent Hill: The Short Message, the latest release in a franchise known for exploring the dark depths of the human soul, leans heavily into such subject matter. Co-developed by Konami Digital Entertainment and HexaDrive and released for free on PS5 at the end of January, The Short Message explores potentially triggering subjects, such as suicide, depression, bullying, and child abuse and neglect. Upon the starting the game, Anita wakes up in an abandoned building in Kettenstadt, Germany. She immediately receives a text from her friend Maya, an internet-famous graffiti artist, who asks Anita to come and find her somewhere in the building. Much of the gameplay is akin to a walking simulator, in that it involves exploration through the grimy, trash strewn hallways with their graffitied walls, chained up doorways, and abandoned rooms — along with some maze-chase sequences that I found more frustrating than frightening. Silent Hill: The Short Message - ein kostenloser PS5 "Walking-Escape-Simulator" mit einem Hauch von Horror, den ich vor lauter Frust beinahe unbeendet gelassen hätte. Bevor ich dieses "Silent Hill" gespielt habe, durfte ich bei dem einen oder anderen Bericht die Überschrift lesen und da wurde doch tatsächlich das Spiel mit P.T. verglichen. Das machte mich neugierig. Ist es wirklich so gut? Dass man "The Short Message" und P.T. überhaupt im selben Satz erwähnt, ist jedoch traurig. Da liegen so große Welten dazwischen. Ich verspürte kein bisschen Angst. Das Einzige, das einem etwas von der teilweise öden und vorhersehbaren Story wachrüttelt, sind die "Boss-Kämpfe". Naja, kämpfen kann man ja nicht, nur flüchten. Aber selbst das empfand ich eher nervig als spannend. Ich war kurz davor, den Controller wegzulegen, aber weil ich wusste, dass es nicht mehr lange dauern konnte, habe ich es durchgezogen. Generell habe ich nichts gegen "Walking-Simulator" im Horror-Genre, es sollte dann aber auch wirklicher Horror sein. In diesem Spiel ist jedoch nichts 'silent'. Ständig ist irgendeine "gruselige" Musik und Teenager-Gejammer im Hintergrund zu hören. Silent Hill hat es immer geschafft, mit Stille eine so unglaubliche Angst in mir hervorzurufen. Das alles vermisse ich hier. Man könnte zwar behaupten, ja, das ist auch nur ein kleines Gratis-Spiel. Soll dieses kleine Spiel nicht die neue Zukunft der "Silent Hill"-Reihe repräsentieren? Ich hoffe nur, dass Silent Hill nicht zu einem bloßen Mainstream-Horror-Spiel verkommt. Entre ellas, se encuentra #SilentHill, que volvió en forma de historia protagonizada por una pseudo #MiaKhalifa, con claras inspiraciones de los nuevos Resi y el difunto #PT de Kojima. #SilentHillTheShortMessage fue lanzado gratarola exclusivamente en #PS5 este 31 de enero. ℹ️De que va? La primera pantalla nos avisa si consideramos autoinfligirnos algún daño o sacarnos toda la HP, busquemos ayuda. También trata sobre la ansiedad de las redes sociales y el bullying. Ambientado en Kettenstadt, una ciudad ficticia en plena crisis económica en Alemania. Manejamos a Anita, una piba con los mismos lentes de la famosa mencionada anteriormente (no es que yo sepa, me contaron). De entrada, está en un edificio abandonado y buscando a Maya, una compañera del secundario que nos mandó un sms para encontrarnos en este lugar de mierda, pero que técnicamente lleva muerta 6 meses. También nos escribimos con Amelie, otra de nuestras besties. El juego es en 1ra persona, y tiene poco gameplay. Vamos a leer algún que otro diario o recorte, los msjs que nos mandan al celu, y abrir puertas, esa es básicamente toda la interacción que hay. A través de esta información vamos haciendo de a poco la historia, y nos vamos dando cuenta de que Anita, no tiene toda la información, por lo que la va armando con nosotros. Monstruos hay uno solo, que en algunas secciones del juego nos va a perseguir como ex tóxico y nos hace tocar el arpa si nos agarra. Personalmente me gustó el diseño, pero las escenas de escapar del bicho, sobre todo la última, me resultaron infumables. 🪬Veredicto #TheShortMessage funciona como juego gratis, con una duración de 1 o 2 hs, depende de cuánto tardes en escapar del bicho. La historia zafa, sin ser gran cosa, es más una temática bien adolescente que se solucionaba con sentarse a hablar 10 minutos. Couple of weeks ago Konami surprise dropped a demo of a new Silent Hill game called The Short Message, so I finally made some time last night to dive into the game. I’m a HUGE horror and Silent Hill fan, it’s one of my favourite series. So it’s always welcome news whenever something new drops. I know the series will never feel like the original 4 games as most of the people involved in those games don’t work for Konami anymore but I think in the right developers hands it could be interesting and good if those developers know what makes SH such a fan favourite franchise. SILENT HILL: THE SHORT MESSAGE 🎮 Have you played this free new game yet? @konami dropped it on PS5 Store out of the blue at the State of Play event last week! 👏🏻 I played it through over the weekend and it was surely a creepy experience 😬 * I actually haven't ever played the original games much so this was my first complete playthrough of the sort. The story was only about 2h long, even if it took me some time more to finish it as I got stuck with the boss sequences a lot. The maps were a damn maze - I know they reflected the main character's anxiety and claustrophobia really well but it got me a bit frustrated at times. But the relentless monster looked scary and I really liked how they combined digital stuff with liveaction bits in the storytelling. The story itself was very dark and heavy so all those warnings and displays of help resources were totally understandable. Silent Hill: The Short Message, primo capitolo del progetto di rilancio del franchise da parte di Konami, si presenta rielaborando elementi familiari in un involucro fresco e aggiornato. Sembra una versione completamente nuova ma in cui sotto tutti gli ornamenti e le modernità, fa capolino l’ossatura dei vecchi titoli. La spinta propulsiva della narrazione corrisponde ai parametri dell'"inferno interiore" che la serie ha sempre utilizzato piuttosto bene in passato, con il mostro, il labirinto e i simbolismi sparpagliati come detriti, che hanno tutti un significato per la protagonista e richiamano il suo vissuto, mentre attraversa corridoi ricoperti di spazzatura e stanze luride per raccogliere appunti, indizi o ricevevere messaggi da alcune amiche. Sezioni intervallate da improvvisi tuffi in un orrore fatto di recinzioni, barricate e vicoli ciechi, inseguiti da una nuova insidiosissima creatura a firma dello storico designer di mostri di Silent Hill, Masahiro Ito. Corse a rotta di collo in preda al panico che colpiscono nel segno e alzano al massimo la tensione. Ciò che a conti fatti delude di Silent Hill: The Short Message, è piuttosto un approccio un po’ grossolano, quasi brutale, alla scrittura. Riguarda le prove e le tribolazioni dell'essere un'adolescente in un mondo digitale, ma c'è un approccio un po’ freddino nel semplicismo con cui articola la vita adolescenziale, ridotta alla tristezza e al romanticismo del suicidio. Silent Hill è da sempre incentrato sulle persone che pagano per i propri peccati in una cella che si sono costruite da sole lungo il cammino, e il campo minato dell’adolescenza è perfetto per un purgatorio in stile Silent Hill; il problema è che le potenziali sottigliezze e sfumature di cosa significhi essere giovani e insicuri si vanno in qualche modo a perdere quando l'unico modo in cui il gioco sembra essere in grado di articolarle sia sottolineando ripetutamente i messaggi con frasi che sembrano più funzionali che naturali.
