Matching Pairs Use sound cards and picture cards to match together. You could play this sitting down, or make it more active by hiding the cards in different places. 3. Treasure Chest Choose a sound card that is your treasure card snd sort a selection of objects - only objects that begin with the treasure sound can go in the treasure chest. 4. Go Fish! Write some sounds onto balls or ducks and fish them out with a net and read the sound written on it. 5. My little handsome chops… So today Parker went to school with no tears. Last week was heart breaking when he was so upset going in that one day I had to take him straight home. We then tried just 10mins then 20mins & today he did 30 & tomorrow we are gonna try for 45 mins & hopefully by the end of the week 1hour. Its made me so happy to see that we are making progress and we are only week 2. Although it is the first year of primary school, it is still part of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) & not the National Curriculum. Let’s talk about sending our kids to preschool for the 1st time. How many of you were nervous as all get out?! I remember thinking is he gonna get kicked out the 1st day? Will he make it through the day without going to the principals office? Will he get in trouble for swearing? Will he be so hyper that he won’t be able to focus? Would he get mad, yell and throw things? Would he get into things he’s not suppose to like he does at home? Would he try to climb on things or run away cuz he has no fear? When your a typical parent many times your a little sad they are going to school but are excited knowing they are going to be just fine. But for us special needs parents there are worries that keep us up at night worrying how our kids will do. At this time autism wasn’t even on our radar but he had been diagnosed with severe ADHD (the worst the psychologist had ever seen in his age) ODD and SPD. Guess what? Turns out he did just fine in Preschool and didn’t really have many issues..those didn’t rear their ugly head until kindergarten which turned out to be one of his toughest most challenging years. In English our letters start at the top (we shouldn’t be doing cursive to start with). Remind them when you work on formation with them. Unless you repeatedly help them they will probably start in the wrong place and so later on when they do come to join they will probably struggle. You know how many times you have to ask a child to do something like put their shoes away? While letter formation can be the same. Repeat over and over start at the top. Here is what our week looked like I randomly made up a days of the week and months of the year song, it stuck and we’ve been singing the same song for months. Doing independent tasks like grooming, brushing teeth and getting dressed in the morning. Reviewing letter sounds, blending 3 letter sounds, rhyming and reading stories. During our reading we are starting to talk about punctuation the start of the sentence and what’s happening in the book. I started using my collection of activity books to review the alphabet, upper and lower case letters, letter sounds, cutting with scissors and using glue. Visits to the library for story time, and getting outside. We practiced counting to 20 and counting within 10 Assembled a lego set. This was the most challenging set we did together. We talked bout shapes, counted the pieces we needed, following the sequence of steps, noticing similar and different pieces. Reviewing our schools curriculum has helped to show me how much my child is learning everyday. We covered all of these this week topics and more Using a provincial curriculum : text form and structure, phonological awareness, oral language, phonics, numbers, geometry, patterns.
