About knocked loose: About Knocked Loose: Knocked Loose is an American metalcore band from Oldham County, Kentucky, formed in 2013 and currently signed to Pure Noise Records. The band as of 2020 is Bryan Garris (lead vocals), Nicko Calderon (rhythm guitar), Isaac Hale (lead guitar & backing vocals), Kevin Otten (bass), and Kevin Kaine (drums). Former members include Cole Crutchfield (2015–2020) (rhythm guitar & backing vocals). The band released their first studio album, Laugh Tracks, on September 16, 2016, and followup, A Different Shade of Blue, on August 23, 2019, both through Pure Noise Records. For A Tear in the Fabric of Life, Knocked Loose wanted to do something different. Or they may have been forced to. With quarantine upending their extensive touring schedule — “we’ve kind of been consistently on the road since 2014,” says vocalist Bryan Garris — the group found themselves in early 2020 sequestered near Louisville, in Oldham County, Ky., where they’re from. By June, they were hunkered down in a cabin in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., focused on writing a concept album. By the end of September they had finished recording. What they came up with is a six song-EP that expands on the narratives hinted at on A Different Shade of Blue, their 2019 full length, and grows beyond them sonically. It’s the band’s most dynamic and contained offering to date, and a balancing act: a mid-length EP with grand ambitions and scope, one full of new sonic elements and a cohesive aesthetic that hangs onto Knocked Loose’s trademark anthemic delivery.
State Champs - The Finer Things 2013 Pure Noise Records Tranparent blue vinyl I didn't like this album much on my first listen 10 years ago. I'd checked it out due to seeing State Champs with @newfoundglory on the then upcoming Pop Punk's Not Dead tour (along with @thestorysofarca and Candy Hearts). Due to pop punk still being in a bit of a rut following the decline of the scene from around 2005 onwards, my first impression was that it sounded like every other lame pop punk band from around that era. However, after giving it a few more listens, I realised how great it was and I now consider it one of the best pop punk albums of the 'silver age' of pop punk. It's a really fun, bouncy, summery pop punk album, filled with bangers from start to finish and doesn't outstay it's welcome at only 11 songs. It's hard to pinpoint which songs are standouts as all of them are great but my personal favourites include Elevated, Remedy, Hard To Please, Critical and Easy Enough! State Champs were one of several bands who spear-headed the pop punk revival at the start of the 2010's, with the likes of @thewonderyearsband @neckdeepuk and @roamuk and they're still going strong today. While they'll likely never top their debut, 2022's Kings Of The New Age is worth a listen. They're due to play The Finer Things in full at @slamdunkmusic which is something I don't want to miss but they clash with @bouncingsoulsnj so it's a tough decision!
