The Black Metal cauldron of the mid 1990s ultimately spawned a myriad of hordes all over the globe conveying the gospel of Darkness and Evil from and to the utmost subterranean spheres. Like in every scenery, a plethora of emulators saturate the Underground. Although a trained eye, ear and spirit eventually knows how to separate the virtuous from the disposable, treasures eventually end up being obfuscated. A proper representative of such notion is Swedish entity Niden Div. 187. A side-project of members from such distinctive names such as Dawn, A Canorous Quintet and Thy Primordial, the group hatched two releases through Necropolis Records in the gleam of 90s before vanishing completely. Right from the very first moments of 1996's "Towards Judgment", one gets dragged into a landscape of dangerous and unapologetically virulent Black Metal. A grim sharp sound conceals fast belligerent riffs, slashes of six-string mania carved as rusty but merciless daggers. An incisive slaughtering drum performance purveys the almost military pulse to these four tracks while pure hate is expelled on a nefarious inhuman vocal performance. All such elements are exalted into an even greater level of hostility and command of both songwriting and atmosphere on the band's debut album and grand opus. Entitled "Impergium", Niden Div. 187 blasts its way into total warfare yet spreading its disease with an assorted diversity, whether by slower more atmospheric moments or slightly melodic yet abyssal riffing. This full-length exposes the band on a darker and more sinister path than ever, supremely evoking a ghastly aura of dread and suffocating blackness via ominous instrumental pieces intervening within deranged blast-beating bashing, a hateful and menacing army of guitar riffs and a carnage of deathlike wails and screams. Thy Primordial - Where Only The Seasons Mark The Paths of Time (1997, Pulverised Records) I’ve gone down another rabbit hole with these purple/blue covers it seems. Tonight it’s the turn of Thy Primordial and their debut full length from 1997. It’s been a while since I revisited this. I remember back in the late 90s some people would argue these Swedes lacked variety, but I always thought they had a singular vision and stuck to it. The black metal was not complex or original but it sure as hell was a blistering, fierce and uncompromising attack to the senses, song after song. It’s no surprise that those involved in the band were also members of the likes of Indungeon and Niden Div. 187. As direct as the music is, there are melodies present but they’re not at the forefront; instead they manifest within the undercurrent of the unrelentless tremolo riffing. The band would release a further 5 full lengths in which the quality of black metal rarely wavered. Niden Div. 187 - Impergium Niden Div. 187 is a band comprised of members from great Swedish bands like Dawn, Thy Primordial, and A Canorous Quintet. However, this side project takes a different approach than the melody driven style the band members play with their main bands. This is aggressive and militaristic sounding black metal, but not in the style of something like black/death metal. This sounds like Duke Satanaël’s side project Uranium 235 and it’s 1995 demo “Total Extermination.” Raw, unrelenting, frantic, yet surprisingly melodic and coherent. När det gäller Svarta Arkivet så har vi två släpp att inleda det nya året med, och vi tänkte presentera dem här. Det ena vet de flesta av er redan om, och det är den redan nämnda (och av några redan förbeställda) arkiv004. NIDEN och BLOODSHED NIHIL. En splitkassett med bandens demokassetter, vilket kommer vara en orgie i våld och livsföraktande nihilism. Arkiv004 var egentligen planerad att komma redan nu i december, men på grund av diverse omständigheter har vi tvingats skjuta på detta till början av 2022. Ni som redan har förbeställt och i vissa fall även betalat kommer naturligtvis inte glömmas bort. Era namn står redan skrivna i sten hos oss. Nästkommande kassett vi ämnar släppa i början av 2022 är arkiv005, vilket kommer bjuda på en kaosartad uppvisning i Thrash/Proto-Black Metal med inga mindre än DEATH RIPPER. Ett band som under en kortare period under åttiotalet härjade djävul i Eskilstuna med omnejd. Bortglömt och begravet, men om man bara lyssnat noga så har man kunnat höra hur de krafsat på kistans lock. Svarta Arkivet lyssnade och valde därför att gräva upp dem och kommer nu släppa “Soldiers of Satan” som kommer bestå av ett knippe rehearsals som är inspelade mellan 1985-1986, som hittills inte nått dagens ljus. Como en todos los escenarios, una plétora de emuladores saturan el Underground. Aunque un ojo, oído y espíritu entrenados eventualmente saben cómo separar lo virtuoso de lo desechable, los tesoros eventualmente terminan siendo ofuscados. Un representante fiel de tal noción es la entidad sueca Niden Div. 187. Un proyecto paralelo de miembros de nombres tan distintivos como Dawn, A Canorous Quintet y Thy Primordial. Desde los primeros momentos de "Towards Judgement" de 1996, uno se ve arrastrado a un paisaje de Black Metal peligroso y venesoso sin misericordia. Un sonido agudo y sombrío, oculta riffs rápidos y beligerantes, cortes de seis cuerdas tallados como dagas oxidadas pero despiadadas. Una incisiva interpretación de baterías holocausticas, proporciona el pulso casi militar a estas cuatro pistas, mientras que el odio puro se expulsa en una interpretación vocal nefasta e inhumana. Todos estos elementos se exaltan a un nivel aún mayor de hostilidad y dominio, tanto de la composición como de la atmósfera en el álbum debut y la gran obra de la banda. Titulado "Impergium", Niden Div. El 187 se abre camino en la guerra total, pero propagando su enfermedad con una diversidad variada, ya sea por momentos más lentos y atmosféricos, o riffs ligeramente melódicos pero abismales. Este largometraje expone a la banda a un camino más oscuro y siniestro que nunca, evocando de manera suprema, un aura espantosa de pavor y oscuridad sofocante, a través de ominosas piezas instrumentales que intervienen dentro de unos golpes desquiciados, un ejército de riffs de guitarras odiosas y amenazante carnicería, de lamentos y gritos de muerte.
