Making the most of the excellent Spring weather with a few trips into North Norfolk. A beautiful walk in the woods around the Blickling Estate, taking in the folly tower, bluebells and the pyramid mausoleum. Then onto East Somerton to the ruins of St. Mary’s which is the home to ‘The Witches Leg’. Вчера, 11 мая, выехали из Караганды в начале девятого утра. Дорога до Каркаралинска прошла довольно быстро (не смотря на очень средний временами ремонт :-). В Каркаралинске перекусили и дозаправились. И двинули в направлении мест нашего основного интереса. ⠀ Первая часть нашей программы была исключительно мавзолейной :-) ⠀ Один из самых интересных погребальных комплексов Центрального Казахстана, возведенных из сырцового кирпича, - мавзолей Тауке Букейханова, и его сыновей Тубека, Кусбека (в истории больше всего засветился он, и иногда весь комплекс называют его именем) и Исмаилхана, располагающийся по пути в Егиндыбулак, в очередной раз стал объектом осмотра. Заодно глянули расположенный напротив мавзолей акына Шоже Каржабайулы (считается, что он пожелал, чтобы его похоронили напротив могилы Кусбека). ⠀ Чтобы увидеть могилу домбриста и композитора Таттимбета Казангапулы и посвященную ему стелу, пришлось добраться до села Актасты и чуть за него. The Grant Tomb of Qin Shi Huang The tomb of the First Emperor, Qin Shi Huang, founder of the Qin Dynasty and unified China’s first emperor, remains one of history’s most intriguing sites. Located in present-day Xi’an, the mausoleum complex, constructed over 38 years using 700,000 workers, houses an estimated 7,000 to 8,000 terracotta warriors and other artifacts. Archaeologists, however, have refrained from excavating the tomb due to concerns about damaging its structure and contents. Accounts from historical texts and non-invasive investigations offer glimpses into the tomb’s interior, including descriptions of palaces, scenic towers, and the central coffin chamber. Notably, mercury was said to simulate rivers and heavenly constellations within the tomb. Buenos Aires Cementerio de la Recoleta. 1822/1881. Prospero Catelin / Juan Antonio Buschiazzo. Built on the grounds of the former Recollect Convent (Convento de la Recoleta) and church, Our Lady of the Pillar (Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Pilar). It was first known as the Cementario del Norde. and laid out by French civil engineer Próspero Catelin. The cemetery was last remodeled in 1881 by the Italian architect Juan Antonio Buschiazzo. It’s the number one tourist attraction in the city and cannot be missed. The tombs, vaults and mausoleums are designed in a variety of architectural styles from the Beaux Arts through Neo-Gothic, Art Nouveau, Art Deco to Modernist. Occupants include some of the most important and influential people in the country’s history including eighteen Presidents and Eva Peron. Some of the astonishing tilework at Shai I Zindah , which has survived since the 14th and 15th Centuries. This is some of the best majolica tilework in Central Asia . They had organic colours (such as ochre, and black from animal bones) as well as mineral colours, and firing these at the correct temperature (it had to be between 900 and 1000 degrees Centigrade) was extremely difficult to control, at the time. The last two photos are of the doors at the entrance of the Mausoleum of Mohammed's cousin, Qusam in Abbas. They date from 1404, and are the oldest doors in Samarkand, showing the skill of the woodcarvers.
