I want to leave you these words… 6 things over 6 days… 1. Struck by the lurgies but I finally finished knitting my sweater vest 2. I am and have become THE biggest Elliot Stabler hater and I refuse to shut up about it or stop watching SVU 3. A vote for Sadiq is a vote for the London I love (Labour won’t be receiving my vote again however) 4. Moved to tears by my patient who wrote me a letter of thanks following the end of our therapy sessions 5. Beautiful day celebrating my friends next gorgeous chapter by creating a matching pot plant set @cernamic (come back in 4-5 weeks for the finished product) 6. His name above it all ♥️ . . . #PsychologyContent #BlackPSYCHOLOGY #Psychologist #DOPsychology #BritishPsychology #BlackBritishPsychology #FMSMuses #InstaDaily #AssistantPsychologist #PsychologyUK #dorcsmuses #LifeAsAPsychologist #MentalHealth #BlackMentalHealth #Wellness

Anyone who knows me, knows that Sunday is my very favourite day of the week. It’s the first day of my week and often the day I reset. My Sundays often consist of rest and reflection, some of that reflection is done in church, other moments whilst I lay lazily in bed. As I walked home this Sunday, I reflected in gratitude to be as privileged as I am that I would certainly return to a home intact, that as I walked the uneven pavement of London that my safety was a high likelihood, that my heart was doing the work to ensure I could walk those uneven streets. I thought of those unable to freely go to a place of worship and felt a wave of sadness accompanied by gratitude for my fortune at being able to do so. I thought of the places in this world that are stricken by strife, paralysed by poverty and violated by violence and I breathed deeply and felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude. As you read this, breathe deep and feel the same gratitude because the likelihood that we share these privileges are high. Together now, in for 1….2….3….4…. did you do it? . . . #PsychologyContent #BlackPSYCHOLOGY #Psychologist #DOPsychology #BritishPsychology #BlackBritishPsychology #FMSMuses #InstaDaily #AssistantPsychologist #PsychologyUK #dorcsmuses #LifeAsAPsychologist #MentalHealth #BlackMentalHealth

In vino veritas and the truth is, I do love a good vineyard, getting to spend my weekend wandering about one was bloody delightful. With each year, I actually relish being celebrated for simply being born? Which for those who know me well is growth. There was a time where March as my birthday month would mean tears but it’s actually become beautiful the older I get… It’s such privilege being loved on and celebrated, because truly? To poorly quote the play #Lessons from @atoarticapte “We’re all simply a speck, eating specks (like lemon drizzle 🍋), on a spinning speck, in a vast chasm of swirling gasses, various sized mineral rocks and darkness”. Anyway with that all said, here’s a bunch of photos from the past couple of weeks 📷 #PsychologyContent #BlackPSYCHOLOGY #Psychologist #DOPsychology #BlackBritishPsychology #FMSMuses #InstaDaily #PsychologyUK #dorcsmuses #MentalHealth

Thirty, flirty and thriving. 🎈 It’s been a beautiful couple of weeks and I’m excited for all that’s to come. Lemon drizzle, London runs, pomegranate, career developments and lots of love. 🍋📚🏃🏾‍♀️🧡 My life is fuller because you’re all in it, pictured or not, you know who you are… ✨✨✨ #PsychologyContent #BlackPSYCHOLOGY #Psychologist #DOPsychology #BlackBritishPsychology #FMSMuses #InstaDaily #PsychologyUK #dorcsmuses #MentalHealth

The past couple of weeks have been something, from celebrations to endings and reconnections but as ever, so much love ♥️. At work as part of the assessment process I have to ask my patients/service users whether they have a good social network, it’s a question we ask to gauge how well adjusted they are and I suppose how connected they are. I’ve started going one step further and I ask “do you find your friendships/relationships fulfilling?” It’s a question that allows you to pause and reflect because if they’re not, then there’s a problem. In a world where we catch up for drinks or dinner or coffee without really saying anything, it’s good to stop and think about how well the time we’re spending is spent. So ask yourself, “how fulfilling are my friendships/relationships?” Oh, another thing I’ve experienced? Aggressive abuse (peep how I put aggressive before abuse so you know I felt the full weight of it) by service users/patients, so word to the wise. Don’t check your work email after hours 😭🥴 #PsychologyContent #BlackPSYCHOLOGY #Psychologist #DOPsychology #BlackBritishPsychology #FMSMuses #InstaDaily #PsychologyUK #dorcsmuses #MentalHealth

I missed posting officially for Valentines Day but I’m a lover of love. It’s so scarce in this world, an outwardly, unapologetic show of love that we only ever see it one day a year. I hope you were inspired yesterday, that you remember that romantic love is not the only love. I hope you know and were reminded that you’re desirable, you’re loved, you’re able to give love and you’re deserving of receiving love. A day that many have made to seem commercial is honestly a day to celebrate how love wins over inequity. St Valentine decided to marry couples despite the fact it was against the Emperors wishes. A yearly reminder acts of love in all its forms, always win. ♥️ . . . #PsychologyContent #BlackPSYCHOLOGY #Psychologist #DOPsychology #BritishPsychology #BlackBritishPsychology #FMSMuses #InstaDaily #AssistantPsychologist #PsychologyUK #dorcsmuses #LifeAsAPsychologist #MentalHealth #BlackMentalHealth #Love #ValentinesDay

It’s been just over a week since our fantastic workshop at @thehearth.me (more on that later) but we find ourselves reflecting on what we want for our mental health this year. With one month down, and 11 more to go, why don’t you ask yourself these three questions? ✨How do you set boundaries to keep yourself emotionally and mentally safe? ✨How do you contribute enough time to maintain your values? ✨Do you know what your values are? and how do you live by them? Ok, ok, four questions, we thought we’d sneak a two in one… . . #PsychologyContent #BlackPSYCHOLOGY #Psychologist #DOPsychology #BritishPsychology #BlackBritishPsychology #FMSMuses #February #AssistantPsychologist #PsychologyUK #dorcsmuses #LifeAsAPsychologist #MentalHealth #BlackMentalHealth

The word “therapy” gets thrown around a lot, so much so that we can begin to think of it as a monolith when really, there’s a whole spectrum of therapies based on psychological principles to choose from. Often when you go to the NHS, for example, (for those of you based in the U.K), they refer you to CBT but CBT doesn’t work for everyone. It didn’t work for me and I wish I had had more information about the other types of therapy that are out there. Of course, the caveat with therapy is that it’s not cheap but fortunately there are organisations like @betterhelp who take into account your income and your preferences. For example my former therapist didn’t realise the economic disparities between black and white women as well the gap in social mobility. When I had to explain this to her, I realised it was time for a new therapist because I shouldn’t be paying you to teach you 😩 @betterhelp is great because it allows you to choose a therapist of your choice. I specifically wanted a black woman as a therapist. I wanted someone who I wouldn’t have to explain certain nuances to and this has helped me so much than I could have imagined. Therapy isn’t just for if you’re feeling blue, it’s a way to get to know yourself better in a world that’s constantly trying to tell you what you should be. Luckily @betterhelp allow you to share the link and provide someone with a free week of therapy, click the link in my bio for a free week. And I’d love to hear your suggestions! Light in Gaza is an anthology of stories from Palestinian writers published in 2022. It was published with the hope and aim to share the stories from the mouths and minds of Palestinians, without the rhetoric of western media. Who better to tell the stories of occupied Palestine than the occupied within Palestine? This particular section and chapter is written by Refaat Alareer - poet, activist but most importantly for him, teacher, University lecturer. Yesterday (Dec 7th) the same day I shared his words unknowingly, he was killed/murdered by weapons created by the U.K. and the U.S to bolster Israel’s apartheid. Refaat Alareer was not Hamas. He was a father, husband and teacher. He was a man who simply wanted to live and exist without prejudice in his homeland. For the 44 years he graced this earth, his existence was met with oppression and violence. To call what’s happening in Palestine genocide is not hyperbole, each airstrike is decimating a people; stories that will never be told, lives that will never have ‘firsts’, music/art/poetry that will never be heard. Trauma that lingers and takes root, twisting and transforming the DNA of children yet to be, because that’s the remarkable nature of trauma, there is only ever the ‘after’. The before becomes extinct. I’m struck by how Refaat’s words inspired and moved me on what would be his last day on this earth. May he rest in peace. 🇵🇸 If you’d like the e-book of Light In Gaza ✨, let me know, I’d be happy to share it. . . . #PsychologyContent #BlackPSYCHOLOGY #Psychologist #DOPsychology #BritishPsychology #BlackBritishPsychology #FMSMuses #InstaDaily #AssistantPsychologist #PsychologyUK #dorcsmuses #LifeAsAPsychologist #FreePalestine #RefaatAlareer #LightInGaza #Palestine

Write a caption... Someone asked me recently how everything’s been going and often I go through my ✨adult checklist✨, you know… ✅ Job/Career ✅ Relationships (Romantic or otherwise) ✅ Fitness/Physical health ✅ Faith ✅ Mental health ✅ Finances etc… And I realised that there were no changes, no disruptions, no ups, no downs, they all just were. Everything is stable and I realised that’s adulting. My current answer to “How are you? How’s it all going?”, it’s “I’m adulting sufficiently” and that’s on that. No news means you’re doing, being, breathing, existing and that deserves several thumbs ups and applause 👏🏾👍🏾 P.S. Last week I was cleaning and I found the @yearcompass I completed coming into this year, and before opening it, I thought, “gosh, I know I probably haven’t achieved half the shit I said I wanted to in here”. My cousin reminded me that priorities shift, and things happen and that doesn’t equate failure. So here’s to some of the shit I wanted to achieve like a better skincare routine and being grateful daily. Priorities shift and things happen and that does not at all equate to failure. In my quest to understand human behaviour, aside from asking why people do what they do, I also engage in the work of those who have come before me:- their thoughts, musings, research, experiences… @estherperel’s book is so fascinating as it acts as a sort of guide for therapists but also is a sort of love letter to those who have been “the third party” in a relationship. It had me feeling conflicted because I’m able to understand that life is messy, as are relationships and they’re not clear cut and as a therapist, I feel it’s very important to be acutely aware of that. It has been a long time since a book has challenged me in such an emotional and pragmatic way. It’s why it’s so battered and bruised, being my companion on commutes, both capturing my interest and vexing me. Another book which will impact my practice, another brick in the making of a psychologist (swipe to see how I’m feeling tho 👀)… P.S. Check my highlight for more about the books I’ve read recently… 📚 . . . #PsychologyContent #BlackPSYCHOLOGY #Psychologist #DOPsychology #BritishPsychology #FMSMuses #AssistantPsychologist #PsychologyUK #dorcsmuses #Bookstagram #BookReviews #PsychBooks #LifeAsAPsychologist #BookRecommendations #BookRecs #Books #EstherPerel #Relationships #RelationshipBooks #Love #StateofAffairs

My June dump. June was a little softer to me and for that I’m grateful. This week I was reminded that cracks are not always bad, that they actually can create something new and beautiful like kintsugi. I’d be a liar if I said that the cracks are not becoming the actual vessel as opposed to parts of it. I’m also becoming to realise that maybe by the end of our lives we look more like kintsugi than a beautiful store bought, fresh of the production line vase from @anthropologie. I can’t say that I’m entirely ok with it, because the cracks are painful and they require additional work. Additional work that you hadn’t anticipated with consequences that you must behold but that you did not create. The discomfort, the disappointment, the disregard and the despair do fill those cracks but I suppose so does light. Those moments where you laugh despite yourself, or you enjoy a really delicious meal, or a much needed caffeine injection in a frothy mug. I suppose those are the light, for me at present, anyway… . . . . #Light #LeonardCohen #Kintsugu #Cracks #Quotes #WednesdayWisdom #FMSMuses #BlackMentalHealth #MentalHealth #BlackPsychologist #BlackBritishPsychologist #MentalHealthMatters #NigerianPsychologist #PsychologyBloggers #BritishPsychologist #PsychologyStudent #PsychologyToday
