If you’ve ever been sailing, did you happen to notice the little ribbons fastened to the sail? They are called telltales. They help sailors indicate a change in the wind so they can adjust and stay the course. My dad explained them to me the first time we went sailing and every time I’ve sailed since, I find myself intentionally spotting them just to watch them dance in the wind. As life happens, people often look for signs to help guide them in the right direction. I don’t know about you but lately I’ve been feeling a lot like my telltales need telltales. Like if I relied on them for course correction, I’d end up shipwrecked. The only thing consistent right now seems to be inconsistency. As a planner, it’s been exceedingly difficult to let go of the need to control things and allow life to simply unfold; trusting this whole process is occurring just as it’s supposed to. I FaceTimed with my parents today and I was telling them that I’ve gotten better at this. When I’ve had opportunities to sway an outcome in a direction I think I want, instead of acting on it, I’ve chosen to deny my instincts and allow it to play out. I’m choosing to do less and it’s providing more. More contentedness, more peace, more acceptance. In sailing and in life, the slightest adjustment can make for the fullest sails and on days there is no wind, there will always be a sunset... and rum. 💜🧡💛 📍 Guanacaste, Costa Rica I’ve been a lot of spectacular places but Costa Rica holds a special place in my heart.
