This is the book I’ve read the most consistently lately, but even that’s a stretch. I go through times of little interest in reading and spring is usually one of them. But Tuesday afternoon, on a warm, breezy, sunny afternoon, I stood outside and thought, “I can’t wait to pull the hammock out and read my Bible out here.” Weird, right?? It definitely isn’t a thought that came to mind before 2023. However, last year some things got a little confusing at my church and I knew I needed to look for answers in a reliable source. Scripture is God-breathed, inspired by God. People died to share His Words. I look to those words for Truth. And peace. And encouragement. And love. And sharing a beautiful day with God by reading His book outside sounds wonderful. Did I pull out my hammock immediately? No. I should have. But I reminded myself that I loved reading outside last summer and I’ll be doing it again. #christianauthor #faithwriter #authorfaith

I grew up in a house filled with antiques, so it’s no wonder I fill my own house with forgotten things. Some—most—of them came out of my mom’s collection. Some came from my own treasure hunts as I start to create my own look. It shouldn’t surprise me that my current WIP is set in a time long past. Older even than any of these kitchen implements. But it does. I know nothing of the Middle Ages. All I know is modern technology didn’t exist and nothing went to waste. And isn’t that lovely? Maybe I need to bring some of these things into my office for mood inspiration! Progress report! How’s your WIP progress? My fiction is slow going, but every time I sit to write it, I have a good time. So it’s not for lack of interest. I’m just kind of floundering a bit. I think I feel like I should be doing more for The Writer’s Faith Companion, but I’m in an in-between stage with it. I can’t upload it to kdp yet because I’m waiting… for a few boring reasons. I’ve also noticed with my fiction that I can only sit for about a half hour before my brain wants to stop thinking. This will get better—I hope—as I truly wrap up WFC things. I finished Revelation and John. Revelation was great! Aside from the confusing and often strange descriptions in the first half, the second half was so good. It helped that I’ve been reading so much of the New Testament lately. The overarching theme of the Bible is that evil never wins and God knows exactly what He’s doing. Oh, and He LOVES us so much. So much. If you find that times are really hard or life is low right now, hold on. I flipped to Psalm 139 last week without intending to and the whole Psalm was a comforting read, one I’ve read before. But verses 11-12 brought about the most peaceful image. God can see in the dark. Take that literally if you have to, because really that stuck out a lot to me. Nothing is hidden from Him. While that could be intimidating to some, it’s actually a great thing. Last week, I took a free webinar to learn about marketing. Wouldn’t you know, it was a sales pitch for a course that you pay to take. I get it. People gotta make a living. I just wish there was a little more info. But I digress. I got a few useful tips that I will now go out and research on my own. At least I have a place to start. Phew!! I did it. I wrote “The End.” It’s only an outline, but whatever. It felt so good, especially considering I’ve been working on it for months. Plans going forward: I’ve got a newsletter coming out for the first time at the end of this month. Sign up at my website! I’m still working on my nonfiction, but waiting for beta feedback. I get to write a real fiction draft again!! Yay!! And I plan to do it on the treadmill. I gotta get my booty out of this desk chair for at least a portion of the day. We’ll see how long my poor feet hold out. And outside of writing life? I’m trying not to think about my muddy backyard. The clover I planted last year didn’t take. I’ve got a lot of fixing to do. Planning my fiction has been a long, slow process. But I love these new characters and every time I think about them, I know a little more and see them a little better. And yet not at all. I keep thinking about the book I’m querying. Or supposed to be querying as it’s been over a month since I sent out a letter. I love that book. I want to go back to it all the time. I can see spots where I’d like to edit and enhance. But today… Today I realized why I haven’t continued to edit and change and resend. My struggle here is that I really believe in this book and I don’t want to quit on it, but if I keep going back to edit, I’ll never write the next one. Or the next. As I’m writing this, I’m thinking, “But wait? Who says? Why can’t you?” Why can’t I? Well, I’ve realized as I’m working on publishing one book, that my new book hasn’t been touched. As I’ve waded into the self-publishing pool, and all the subsequent depths that go with it, I haven’t given anything else writing-related the time it needs. My focus has narrowed to one project at a time. I know I can switch focus, but I’m getting really sucked in here. Making my website took an entire day because I kept adjusting things. That’s after I spent hours and days last summer making its first iteration. My newsletter took an entire morning. Formatting my interior pages has taken multiple attempts and frustrations and days. And it’s not done yet. Cover design? One day, the idea feels hot and fresh. The next day, I’m editing again… For hours. It won’t always be like this. This is the only project I am currently planning to self publish, but I can’t divide my attention right now, especially not among multiple projects that have multiple steps. I’m praying that as I continue to research agents, that they will take an interest in what I’ve managed to complete. That they will fall in love. That they will work with me and guide me forward, so I’m not editing into the void, but editing for a purpose. I believe in all my projects, but I’m in love with the one I’m slowly leaving behind. Not forever. The start of 2022 for me has been a time of trusting God. As it has been for over a year and a half. In July of 2020, God told me to step out on faith and leave a job of security that i had no plans of leaving. When something like that happens, you think that all your dreams are about to come true. But for me, it has been a time of learning to trust God and build a deeper connection with Him. Now fast forward to 2022 where God is continuing to build my faith and showing me that He is Jehovah Jireh, my provider, i am seeing that i need Him everyday.
