Another day, another album! 💿 21/365 Met vandaag in de hoofdrol: ⤵️ “If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late van Drake, deel 21 van de 365!” In hip-hop land gaat het ondertussen al een tijdje over de beef die gaande is tussen K.Dot en Drizzy, waardoor het werk wat beiden zo groot heeft gemakt aan de kant geschoven wordt door wat er hedendaags speelt, welk kamp je dan ook kiest. Bij deze, ik respecteer beiden artiesten en vind ze beiden kei hard. Buiten dat is het ook appels met peren vergelijken. No point intended. Dan het album, de meningen zijn verdeeld of het nou een mixtape, ep, of album is.. het zou in iedergeval zijn 5e professionele werk zijn, uitgebracht in 2014. De sound lijkt naar mijn mening heel erg op de sound die je ook hoort op Take Care en Nothing Was The Same.. met een Drake die meer zingt dan rapt, wat zeker niet iets verkeerds is. Groot verschil is wel dat Drake zich op dit album de koning waant van de wereld, wat opzich niks verkeerds is.. maar waar je wel vraagtekens achter kan zetten, het komt soms nog al cocky over. Het is niet mijn favoriete drake album, en van de albums die gereviewd zullen worden de laagste in ranking voorspel ik.. Ik geef het album een 8,2! Ik hoop dat je hebt genoten van deze video. Another day, another album! 💿 20/365 Met vandaag in de hoofdrol: ⤵️ “Everything Is Everything van Donny Hathaway, deel 20 van de 365!” Donny Hathaway was een Amerikaanse soul zanger geboren in 1945 en sinds 1969 actief. Spijtig genoeg zou hij in 1979 overlijden waardoor hij maar 10 jaar muziek heeft mogen maken. Donny zou een zwaarmoedig leven leven waarin hij worstelde met paranoïde schizofrenie.. juist op het punt dat het goed ging met zijn carrière pleegde hij in 1979 zelfmoord door uit een raam te springen. Op dat punt was hij een van de grootste namen in de soul, en had hij net een succes geboekt als duo met Roberta Flack. Dan het album, dit zou zijn debuutalbum zijn in 1970 nadat hij een platencontract verdiende bij Atco Records. Deze merkte Donny op door een succesvolle single op het muzieklabel van Curtis Mayfield. Wat het album voor mij speciaal maakt, sinds ik niet heel breed luister naar soul uit deze tijd is dat de teksten echt tijdloos zijn.. en het album een uitstekende balans heeft in feel good tracks en rustigere introspectieve nummers.
