It was a great day to celebrate the kickoff of Pride month at the @dallasprideofficial festival with @stonewalldallasdems, @dallasdemocrats, and @rainbowlulac. We registered voters, signed up new members, talked about the upcoming national election, and made new friends too. It was 2.53am when I wrote this … I couldn’t sleep! This week, @IleaRoseBoutique in the #StarcourtArcade is closing down. When they opened last year, I was excited to have neighbours! But, for a business to work, you need customers and there’s noticeably less foot traffic which is really biting us all. The fallout is that businesses close and Ilea Rose closing down is making me immensely sad. You might think it’s “only” a little shop, but without it, a livelihood is lost, families are impacted, our suppliers lose, potential jobs are lost, our community is not the same, and the CBD is a little quieter. Sad that it’s taken a closing down sale for Ilea Rose to have their best days since opening … sad that customers are saying ‘oh I had no idea you were here’ or that the arcade was ‘restored’. Gobsmacked that there are a lot of locals who have not visited the CBD since the flood. I don’t think I’m alone in saying many of us are running on a wing and a prayer. Don’t get me wrong, I am genuinely happy for the businesses that are bouncing back in a consistent way, but one great day every so often doesn’t pay the bills. It’s frankly depressing to have people come into the shop and tell me that they love it, love what I make, but then head to bigger stores and other towns to spend their $$. I can’t compete with Temu or Shein and nor do I want to and I know I can’t stop that, but I am asking you to please support local businesses. The small, independent, self employed kinds of businesses. The family businesses. The shops that give Lismore it’s quirkyness, where you find things you won’t find anywhere else, or the essentials you’ll find at the same or better prices than elsewhere. ☀️ Welcome to June, the best month of the year ☀ I love that my birthday is in the month that Summer begins, Summer is my favorite season (although I eventually get on board with all of them) so it's perfect that my birthday falls in my favorite season. For several years, I've turned my social media birthday wishes into a cash donation to an animal shelter or rescue (no, I don't ask you to donate so don't worry, I take the number of wishes I've received and donate an amount per wish to a local animal shelter or rescue). Like in past years, I will be donating to @surfcatrescue. Seniors and less adoptable kitties definitely have my heart, and I've been honored to have fostered several loving kitties for Surfcat. Facebook birthdays are the best and I love being able to give to a local cat rescue in the middle of the year when donations can be slow. I want to give this virtual bouquet to the kind strangers who came to my aid last Friday 24th May when I collapsed at Liverpool St Station as I got off the Elizabeth Line at approximately 10.10am. Thank you for raising the alarm. Thank you too for the rapid assistance I received from the wonderful London Underground staff who called the paramedic and the ambulance services. I remember the name Monty and his reassuring words whilst we waited for the paramedic, although everything else is a bit of a blur @london___underground I’d also like to thank and recognise the wonderful care I received from the Emergency Department at the Royal London at the hands of our overstretched but brilliant nhs @nhsenglandldn @nhsengland All have my gratitude and heartfelt thanks. I’m now recovering at home & receiving the care I need. So frustrated 🤬 The build on the new trailer was wrapped up and this weekend I was going to test the new trailer and if things went smoothly have the new trailer out this coming Monday. However, the generator keeps turning off and a red light is flashing signaling the generator was shut off due to an accumulating carbon monoxide hazard. The only tip given for this issue is to “move the generator to an open outdoor area and point the exhaust away from people or buildings.” Mind you, the generator is outside ! Every step of building this third trailer has come with delays and difficulties. I am so frustrated as I have no clue how to fix this issue. I wanted to have this trailer on the streets months ago, yet problems continue to arise and I do not have the skills to solve these problems, and at the end of the day all the responsibility falls upon me, and I have to find a solution and get this trailer functioning and providing services to those experiencing homelessness. Please send all your positive energy and hopefully I can get this resolved. Please know I am working my hardest to get this new trailer on the streets. Hate feeling like I am letting everyone down by not being able to solve this problem.
