In the early 1950s, the RAF had a big problem. Having brought the first generation of jet fighters like the Gloster Meteor into service, they suddenly found them outclassed. Royal Australian Air Force Meteors were coming up short against North Korean Mig-15s in the skies over Korea and something had to be done. The RAF purchased the North American Sabre as a stop-gap. But for the long term, they decided to rush a brand new second-generation fighter into production. That aircraft would become the Hawker Hunter. The Hunter initially had a number of problems. But once they were ironed out the aircraft became a huge success for the British aircraft industry - exported to over 20 nations worldwide. The Hunter flew in a range of conflicts with the RAF such as Suez and Aden, including in a ground attack role. It also became a favourite at air shows for display teams like the Blue Diamonds and Black Arrows. Finally, a Hunter F.6 just like the one at IWM Duxford was flown through Tower Bridge by pilot Alan Pollock, a story which has entered RAF legend. . . . Pretty short but the potential for problems (think dating Tom Cruise). That said, both require really precise wedge shots off the tee. Sand on both and water on one. Mikoyan - Gurevich MiG-15 Motor: Turborreactor Klimov VK-1 Velocidad Máxima: 1.075 km/h Velocidad Crucero: 840 km/h Alcance: 1200 - 1900 km Éste famoso caza, y su antecesor MiG-9, es resultado del trabajo soviético, combinado com documentos, información, científicos e ingenieros capturados tras la caída del 3er Reich. Se crea un monoplano con alas en flecha, equipado con un turborreactor Klimov que era una copia exacta del Rolls Royce Nene británico. Vuela por primera vez el 30 de diciembre de 1947, el potencial que tenía el avión era impresionante, sin saberlo, desarrollaban un caza superior a cualquier modelo europeo del momento y en equilibrio frente a su "Némesis" el F-86 Sabre estadounidense. Comienza a ser producido en 1948 e ingresa al servicio con la Unión Soviética un año después, más de 12.000 unidades serán producidas en ese país y unas 4500 bajo licencia en países colo Polonia o Checoeslovaquia. Se trata de una extensa hoja de servicio, que sorprendentemente continúa, ya que el MiG-15 sigue siendo utilizado en Corea del Norte. No obstante, pese a sus muchas horas de vuelo en varias fuerzas aéreas, la fama de éste caza se justifica por su papel en la Guerra de Corea. La Guerra de Corea fue un momento "bisagra" en cuanto a lo tecnológico, los últimos aviones con motores a pistón y los primeros reactores y helicópteros participaron al unísono en la contienda, pero es el duelo entre los MiG-15 y los F-86 lo que hace a éste conflicto interesante para la aviación. Dogfight a reacción, aún no habían misiles, solo cañones, los F-86 más rápidos y ligeramente mejor armados, los MiG-15 con una maniobrabilidad excepcional, enfrentandose en escenarios bien conocidos como el "MiG alley". I shoot you down! https://www.thisdayinaviation.com/12-april-1953/ This amazing story starts on April 12, 1953 when a “furball” ensued over North Korea. Captain McConnell, in his F-86, attempted to assist a fellow F-86 when he was jumped by Soviet Captain Semyon Fedorets in his MiG-15. Captain Fedorets had just become an ace that day and was looking for a sixth kill. Capt Fedorets opened up on McConnell with his two 23mm and single 37mm cannons. McConnell’s F-86 had a huge hole blown in his right wing root but McConnell rolled away and Fedorets lost sight of the stricken F-86. McConnell completed a barrel roll and ended up on the tail of Captain Fedorets giving McConnell a brief chance to aim his six .50cal machine guns and fire off a burst. Fedorets MiG caught fire forcing the Soviet Captain to bail out at ~36,000 feet (11,000 meters). Captain McConnell got his Sabre out over the Yellow Sea before he was forced to eject as well. He was soon rescued. McConnell was only in the water a couple of minutes when he was rescued by helicopter. McConnell was Fedorets’ Sixth victory. Fedorets was McConnell’s number eight victory. Both men would soon return to the fight. 🇭🇺 1970-ben, ezen a napon, szökött Olaszországba MIG-15 típusú vadászgépével Zoboki Sándor főhadnagy, akit távollétéen halálra ítéltek. A hadseregnél azt gondolták, hogy lezuhant vagy kényszerleszállást hajtott végre, a felkutatására azonnal három helikoptert vetettek be. Két órával később hívták vissza a bajbajutott pilótát kereső helikoptereket, miután nyugati hírügynökségek beszámoltak arról, hogy Zoboki Sándor főhadnagy Udinétől nem messze, a risanói, reptéren szállt le a gépével. Alig több mint harminc perc alatt ért oda. A 25 éves főhadnagy dobbantása (ahogy akkor nevezték a disszidálást) rendkívül érzékenyen érintette a honvédelmi vezetést. A bíróság az ítéletében egyetlen enyhítő körülményt vett figyelembe, Zoboki Sándor büntetlen előéletét. Ez azonban kevés volt ahhoz, hogy ne a legsúlyosabb megítélésű katonai bűntettnek mondják ki a szökést. Olyan hadfelszerelési tárgyakat szolgáltatott ki a NATO-hoz tartozó egyik nyugati államnak, amelyek megismerése a a Varsói Szerződéshez tartozó államok szempontjából sem jelentéktelen. Zobokit főhadnagyot megpróbálta kiadatni a magyar állam, azonban ő menedékjogot kapott Olaszországtól. A vadászgépét viszont Olaszország visszaadta.
