Quelle question ! Oui bien sûr ! En 1985, il y avait déjà un moment que j’avais arrêté d’écouter “Thriller”, d’autant plus qu’un natif de Minneapolis avait commencé de faire la pluie et le beau temps en me faisant voyager autour du monde en un jour. Mais revenons à notre Pépite du jour, sublime chanson composée par le claviériste de Toto, Steve Porcaro. Miles, tout comme Michael Jackson et Quincy Jones, adorait Human Nature. Et si, d’emblée, mous du nerf auditif et autres durs de la feuille ont grimacé – « Why, why… » se lamentaient-ils, les sots –, Miles, lui, a souri, qui savait mieux que quiconque la valeur d’une belle mélodie et d’harmonies susceptibles de l’inspirer. Il jouera Human Nature jusqu’à sa mort, et c’est bien normal puisqu’elle lui allait comme un gant. Sa trompette, c’était la voix de Michael transfigurée, passée au prisme de sa culture jazz ; son phrasé et sa sonorité rouge écaillée faisaient merveille. Et quel bonheur ce fut, vingt-sept ans plus tard, de découvrir une version alternate de Human Nature, plus longue, et peut-être plus émouvante encore. Happy Birthday to the ‘third Carpenter,’ John Bettis! Born in Long Beach, CA on October 24, 1946, today he turns 77 years old. Bettis is responsible for writing the lyrics to some of the most iconic Carpenters songs such as ‘Top of the World,’ ‘Yesterday Once More,’ ‘I Need to Be in Love,’ and ‘Goodbye to Love,’ as co-writer with Richard Carpenter, and so many more! ❤️MY JAM!❤️ May 11, 1985 - Madonna went to No.1 on the US singles chart with 'Crazy For You'. It was released as the first single from the soundtrack to 1985 film Vision Quest. Movie producers #JonPeters and #PeterGuber, along with music supervisor #PhilRamone, decided to use Madonna after listening to her previous recordings, employing #JohnBettis and #JonLind to write the song. Initial recording sessions did not impress Bettis and Lind, and they felt that "Crazy For You" would be dropped from the soundtrack. However, a new version was recorded to their liking. Crazy For You was the second number-one song for Bettis as a songwriter, after "Top of the World" by The Carpenters (1973). With "Crazy for You", Bettis was in doubt whether the song would reach the top, after it was stuck at number two for three weeks, behind We Are the World. John "Jellybean" Benitez was the producer for the song, and it was a challenge for him, as previously he was associated with recording dance-pop songs only. Benitez also noted that "Crazy For You" was an important recording for Madonna, as the song being a ballad, was openly accepted at adult contemporary radio. She had already charted with her singles "Like a Virgin" and "Material Girl", hence Madonna wanted to prove that she can sing in a different genre of music. However, Warner initially did not want the song to be released as a single, since the release of #VisionQuest coincided with the release of Madonna's second studio album Like a Virgin and releasing " #CrazyForYou" would have distracted attention from the album. Warner Bros. Records chief Mo Ostin went to Robert A. Daly, chairman of Warner, and requested him to pull out the Madonna tracks from the Vision Quest soundtrack. Daly summoned Peters and Guber to his office and informed them that they had to let-go of the Madonna tracks. Peters protested and shouted at Daly, resulting him escaping in fright and Warner allowing "Crazy For You" to be released as a single.
