✨A DREAM CAME TRUE LAST NIGHT! 💚 In central Ohio, no less!! 💖 It was quite a show! 💜 Blown away doesn’t even begin to describe how we felt! 😯🤩🥹 📍Indian Lake State Park~ Lakeview, Ohio ✨They kept changing…shape and color! They really do dance! 💫 ✨All taken between 10:15-11:15 EST. It’s been a crazy week, and we only found out about the possibility of the aurora borealis around 6 PM Friday evening. We got things in order and then hopped in the truck and started driving north on 75. People close to home and even further south from us saw the auroras, but we knew we wanted every chance at this bucket-list experience. We ended up at Indian Lake at the perfect time! 💦MINGO FALLS💦 Took our breath away!! 🤩 One of our favorite waterfalls in Great Smoky Mountains National Park! SAVE THE TIPS ⬇️ for your visit! 📍 Cherokee, North Carolina ~ Did you know…the GSMNP is in TWO states? 🇺🇸 This waterfall is on the NC side. 💦At 120-feet-tall, it’s impressive!! We really did gasp when we first saw it. The surrounding trees, the rocks and logs below, and the gorgeous mineral color framing the falls make for a stunning scene! It was hard to walk away! 💚 ⭐️ TIPS: 1~ 🐻 Plan to spend time in town to learn about Cherokee history and culture. We enjoyed driving through and seeing Cherokee art & language all around. We wished we had arrived earlier in the day to explore it. “Mingo” actually means “bear” in Cherokee. “Mingo Falls is in the Qualla Boundary—a land trust of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians” (from nps site). 2~ 🥾 The parking lot is easy to access. It’s a short, 0.4-mile hike to the falls, but it’s all incline with 160 stairs. There aren’t any spots to just sit and take in the view, so plan to work with and around other visitors. Scroll ⬇️ for what we learned. 📍Clingmans Dome, Tennessee ~ Highest peak of Great Smoky Mountains National Park 🇺🇸 ⛰️It was a perfect, clear day in the NP. When it is, you go UP! Preferably, up to Clingmans Dome!! It’s the highest peak of the Smoky Mountains *and* in all of TN. At 6653 ft, it is also the 3rd highest peak east of the Mississippi River beaten by the other two by only 4 ft (Mt. Craig, NC) and 41 ft (Mt. Mitchell, NC). 🥾 The Appalachian Trail crosses over the summit making Clingmans Dome the highest point of the 2,144-mile AT. 2️⃣ The NP is in TWO states, TN and NC. On this peak, there are amazing views of BOTH states! 🤩 👍TIPS: •🎥 4 & 5~ Take bypass trail to the Appalachian Trail. While the Clingmans Dome trail is paved, both have quite an incline. The bypass trail is more scenic & less crowded. Be sure to take poles! It’s a bit treacherous, too. There are several pretty NC views through the trees. •🎥 6&7~ Take the Appalachian trail to the observation tower. It’s awesome to be at the highest point of the AT, and there are some incredible views of TN! •📸 8 & 9~ From the Observation Tower, there are 360° views. Spend time at each sign to find all points of interest. It’s amazing! That’s Mt. Leconte behind us in pic 9. It’s the 3rd highest peak of The Smokies, and we had hiked it just hours before this photo. •📸10~ Visit on a clear day! You can see up to 100 miles away from the tower! In this shot, the very last range is Mt. Mitchell. •📸 1, 2 & 3~ Don’t worry when it gets crowded at the tower. Head down the paved trail for some of the best views. 🌈 MOONBOW🌈 | All shots taken around 11:30 PM! 📍Cumberland Falls State Park~ Corbin, Kentucky (Daniel Boone National Forest) 💦💨 Cumberland Falls is one of just a few places IN THE WORLD where moonbows are *reliably* produced, & it’s the *most reliable* in the Western Hemisphere! Each month, as long as conditions are right, a moonbow will appear! 🚌 Last week, we were doing some nighttime traveling on 75 through KY. There was an almost-full moon, & the skies were clear. Soooo…we made a scenic stop for a couple of hours. Amazing!! 🤩This was our second time viewing the “moonbow” or lunar rainbow. The phenomenon was just as spectacular as the first time! ✨First video~11:32 PM… If you look closely, you will see the moonbow. 😍 ✨Second video~ 11:41 PM… So peaceful to see and hear the water in the moonlight! 😙 ✨Third video~1:17 AM… We finally left to get back on the road. lol.
