Untitled” (Portrait of Ross in L.A.) is an allegorical representation of the artist’s partner, #RossLaycock (pictured left), who died of an #AIDS-related illness on 24thJanuary 1991. The installation is comprised of 175 pounds of candy individually wrapped in multicoloured cellophane, corresponding to Ross’s ideal body weight. Viewers are encouraged to take a piece of candy, and the diminishing amount parallels Ross’s weight loss and suffering prior to his death. #FelixGonzalezTorres (pictured right) stipulated that the pile should be continuously replenished, thus metaphorically granting perpetual life. González-Torres, who dedicated his artwork to the one he love and lost, died in 1996 of AIDS aged 39 (words by Dante Buu, AIDS memorial fb page). Talk about an arresting piece of art ✨♥️🍬

DOVREMO RENDERE CONTO Ho provato a salvare più persone dagli errori che io avevo già commesso, purtroppo serve a poco, ognun* deve fare la sua esperienza, sbattere la sua testa, capire autonomamente. Non sempre le persone sono insalvabili. Recentemente delle amiche mi hanno chiesto di fare attenzione a una potenziale frequentazione. Io le ho ascoltate eccome. Soprattutto perché in passato mi è successa una cosa. Le persone intorno a me vedevano cose. Io non vedevo perché avevo scelto di indossare dei paraocchi e lenti colorate. Nel rispetto delle mie scelte pensarono di non dirmi nulla, ne parlammo a posteriori, un confronto sereno. Ma chiesi loro di non farlo più, di avvisarmi. Oggi, anche se le segnalatrici sono differenti, scelgo di cogliere una sensazione più razionale, una visione d’insieme che magari a me manca. Ho scelto di fidarmi e di preservarmi. Per sentirmi via, in tutti i miei sbagli (cit). Ho parlato con persone con più anni di vita vissuta e ne ho costruito un corollario ricco di ciò di cui dovremo rendere conto. Prima che sia troppo tardi per porre rimedio le condivido. Sperando ti aiutino come hanno aiutato me. Dovremo rendere conto, a noi stess* e/o alle altre persone, dei deboli (non necessariamente in assoluto, magari in uno specifico momento) con i quali non ci siamo schierat*. Battiti per le persone e/o le cause giuste. Empatizza con chi soffre, non minimizzare il suo sentire. Anche se non hai vissuto l’esatta situazione puoi validare quel dolore, darne atto e appoggio, sostegno, presenza. Non fare finta di nulla anche se è più comodo. Tutt* vorremmo avere meno scocciature nostre, figuriamoci quanta voglia abbiamo di accollarci i problemi di altr*. E poi è sempre meglio non farsi nemic*, buttarla sul quieto vivere. Ma con il tempo diventa il quieto sopravvivere. Sopravvivere non può essere il nostro scopo nella vita, possiamo essere meglio. Rimettendo un* prepotente al suo posto e facciamo la differenza. Exceptional works by Felix Gonzalez-Torres from the Rosa de la Cruz collection upcoming @christiesinc The first contemporary work Mrs. de la Cruz acquired was by Gonzalez-Torres, a fellow Cuban-American who fled Fidel Castro’s regime. During the final years of the artist’s life in the early 1990s, they formed a close friendship in Miami. De la Cruz went on to assemble the most comprehensive collection of Gonzalez-Torres’s work in private hands, with notable examples from each of his key series, including the impressive “Light String” coming up in the single owner Evening Sale on May 14th. 1.
