Incredible Kazuo Shiraga action painting from 1962 that sold @christiesinc earlier this month for $1,381,000, which is a good price considering the modest size and broad color spectrum. «Voglio dipingere come se corressi in un campo di battaglia, sforzandomi di crollare dall'esaurimento» (Kazuo Shiraga, 1955) L'arte di Kazuo Shiraga (Amagasaki, 1924 - 2008) è profondamente influenzata dal panorama socio-culturale del Giappone del dopoguerra. Nel 1952 fonda il primo gruppo d’avanguardia giapponese, lo Zero-Kai. Il gruppo sosteneva che l’arte dovesse ripartire dal punto zero assoluto per potersi sviluppare secondo la propria inclinazione personale. Successivamente, nel 1955, si unisce al gruppo Gutai: idea fondamentale del gruppo era la supremazia della materia e dell'azione sul pensiero, sullo schema e la composizione; idea che si manifesta sia nelle performance che nelle opere dell’artista. In questi anni infatti le sue opere sono una risposta alla guerra e alla violenza: Shiraga darà inizio ad una pittura energica che si concretizzerà, negli anni 60 all'utilizzo di tutto il corpo come mezzo per dipingere. Negli anni ‘70 un senso di calma e grazia inizierà a pervadere le sue opere, dopo gli studi per diventare monaco buddista esoterico. I suoi dipinti diventano quindi una combinazione di coscienza e inconscio, un'unione di spontaneità e formalismo. (Tratto da “Gruppo Gutai. Un mercato in ascesa costante”, di Martina Gambillara, Artribune, 18 novembre 2018) Negli anni finali del percorso artistico le opere di Shiraga iniziano ad assumere un vigore sereno, con colori brillanti applicati in modo gioioso sulla tela, come a dimostrare una esorcizzazione dei demoni combattuti in passato. Little information has been located on this artist, however, what is clear is that this work was produced in the quality, spirit & period of Gutai. . The Gutai Bijutsu Kyokai (Gutai Art Association) was formed in 1954 in Osaka by Yoshihara Jiro, Kanayama Akira, Murakami Saburo, Shiraga Kazuo and Shozo Shimamoto. The activities of the Gutai group in the mid 1950s constitute one of the most important moments of post-war Japanese culture. . In their early public exhibitions in 1955 and 1956 Gutai artists created a series of striking works anticipating later happenings and performance and conceptual art. . This particular work is very closely related to the oeuvre of Sadamasa Motonaga (1922-2011), with an explosion of colour and texture. #gündenkalanlar çok severek okudum öncelikle onu belirtmek isterim. #yky kitapları böyle küçücük yazılar, uzun sayfalarla gözümüzü korkutur ama bu kitap farklıydı. Yine bir @fatmaburchak atölyesi kitabıydı. Zaten yazarı biliyordum. Fatma hocayla da ayrı bir tat aldım. #kazuoshiraga nın kalemini de bayıldım ve kitaplığımdaki diğer kitapları da okumak için öncelik sırasına girdi. Bir uşağın efendisine olan sorumluluğunu anlatırken isminden gelen akşam oturup biz bugün ne yaptık ne kaldı bugün bize günden dedirtiyor. Yine bir 2.dünya savaşı ve entrikaları da kitapta. Ama en çok da azınlıklara yapılanlar yine gözönünde.Uşağın hizmet aşkından çıkıp kendi yolculuğundayken olayları öyle güzel anlatmış ki yazar ben çok sevdim. (*)”Kazuo Shiraga once described the world as a “splendid playground.” Thrilled by the slick materiality of oil paint, he abandoned the brush first for his fingers and then for his feet, swinging himself from ropes over sheets of paper placed on the floor. Shiraga was one of the most widely known artists associated with the Gutai Art Association. Gutai ("concreteness" in Japanese) was formed in 1954 and swiftly became Japan’s most significant avant-garde collective. 【展示の案内と説明】 今回の展示には、文章+コンセプトが大事だと思っています。 今日は、『場を考える』は〜もう一つの作品と言えます。 よろしくお願いいたします。 ◆場を考える～『光の集積』 神園宏彰 『言葉と汗、そして作品』 今回の作品の展示場はかっては体育館であった。 体育館は身体を育むスポーツの場でもあるが言葉の館でもある。 そう、昔この場所は、言葉の場所だった。 入学式を、そして卒業式を祝い校長は、長く退屈な演説をしたに違いない。 時には理不尽な校則を発し、上下関係が生まれ 運動系の部活ではきっと声援と同時に叱咤と体罰があったであろう場所だ。 『唾と共に汗の館』ともいえるだろう。 その場所もその役目果たししばし沈黙の場所だった。 消滅し過ぎ去った時代の遺産のエリアとなっていたが今は現代美術の展示場になった。 私は偶然にスケジュールの空いたこの場所で展示の機会を得たが 折角の機会なので展示の場所について意味と意義を少し立ち止まって再考してみた。 自作の『存在と消滅のエクリチュール』の展示場所にはふさわしい場所だと感じている。 『言葉と汗』は、 どちらも人間から発せられ 芸術作品が生まれる時には必要不可欠のものだ。 中学生に限らず人間には、言葉も身体性、芸術、どれもが大切かもしれない、、、との思いが浮かんだ。 #abstractart #abstractpainting #abstraction #abstractartist #fineart #art #painter #geometricabstraction #contemporarypainting #contenporaryart #abstractartprojects #kunst #abstractmag #artcollection #artoftheday #modernpainting #minimalabstractart #minimalcontemporary #matsutanitakesada #kazuoshiraga #museumlover #Japaneseartist #具体 #現代美術

Kazuo Shiraga once described the world as a “splendid playground.” Thrilled by the slick materiality of oil paint, he abandoned the brush first for his fingers and then for his feet, swinging himself from ropes over sheets of paper placed on the floor. Shiraga was one of the most widely known artists associated with the Gutai Art Association. Gutai ("concreteness" in Japanese) was formed in 1954 and swiftly became Japan’s most significant avant-garde collective. This 1960 canvas, with its muscular smears of rich color, demonstrates the dynamic textural and gestural effects achieved by Shiraga's uniquely sensuous method. 無事に作品が並びスタートしました。 遠方の方に伝わるように作品解説を少しづつしていきたいと思っています。文章長くなりますが よろしくお願いいたします。 まずは、ハガキサイズの小品群について、、。（画像の右側） 『痕跡と消滅のエクリチュール』 ハガキサイズの小品群によるウォール・インスタレーション ◆この作品群は、ハガキサイズにこだわり文字を強く意識して作成をしています。 周知の通りハガキはかって通信メディア主力でした。 郵便配達人が持つ黒いバックには伝えたいメッセージでぱんぱんに膨らみ世界中を駆け巡る最新のメディアでした。それは遠い故郷から、旅先の外国から、友人、恋人、家族へ戦地から安否を知らせる情報を知らせる手立てした。とても貴重なもので日常的だったハガキの存在は今は薄らいできました。 さらに近年はコンピューター、スマホの普及によつて文章は短くなり生活の様式を大きく変えてしまいました。 端的に言うとハガキサイズの紙を使う事は失われていくものをシンボリックに表したいからです。 ◆またグリッドのマス目は中国等の古文書からも由来しています。読めない文字を勝手に解釈し形にしたものです。 世界の進歩のなかで失われていく又は失われた文化・文字・物語を表しています。 ◆そもそも小さな作品にこだわるようになったのは、ドイツの芸術家クルト・シュヴィッタースの影響があります。2008年に新国立美術館：『20世紀美術探検』という企画展でみた彼のコラージュ作品は、私の心を大きく捉え揺さぶりました。作品は、大きさだけではない、小さくても大きく感じさせるものがあると強烈に印象付けられました。 現代美術では大きな彫刻やインスタレーション・大画面のビデオ作品等に注目が注げられがちですがアイデアとコンセプトがあれば大きさは関係ない。むしろ日常の小さなサイズにも可能性を見出そうと決意しました。 また日々、美術作品には膨大に生まれていますが一方では膨大に破棄、いわゆるゴミにもなっています。環境への配慮の気持ちが少なすぎる気もします。作り手もどこかで自重すべきと強く感じます。今一度大きな作品を作る意味、ひいては作家が作品を作る意味に対てじっくり一度立ち止まって自身に間うてみました。この作品群はささやかですがアート全体のテーゼでもありそして環境問題の配慮への切っ掛けと促しもあります。 ◆改めてハガキサイズの紙を選んだ他の理由には、世界中にあるもの（入手しやすい物）で、それでいて世界にないものを作りたという思いが先行しました。やがて制作を進めるうちに深く考える様になりました。 制作は、日々、日記のようにしています。この描く行為は文字書きに非常に似ています。やがて、出来上がった作品を並べているうちに本のページの様に思えてきました。時にそれを意識的に文字に似せてみました。特に私の作品作りが連綿と続く姿はリルケのマルテの手記の様にモザイク的な手法と重ねあわせることも可能ではと考える様になりました。 またこれまでに歴史の中に消えた文字は読めないが恐らくこんなことが書いてあるというイメージです消えていく文字も意識が芽生えてきました。 ◆ほぼ毎日執拗に描くことで王羲之の蘭亭序・ペルシャのルバイヤート・チベット仏教の経典・ダロウの書など過去の書物に近づこうとしています。 つまり古今東西の書物の文字は読めないが恐らくこんなことが書いてあるのではと勝手な解釈へ至るというイメージです。 2次元の絵画から文庫本、詩集、経典の一部から現代のタブレットといった様々な平面、画面を連想させる様な展示作品です。 ◆展示において～展示の方法 配置と面積 点数について 4の倍数を意識しています。 ペルシャのルバイヤート4行詩 正方形 長方形の４辺を意識しています。 #abstractart #abstractpainting #abstraction #abstractartist #fineart #art #painter #geometricabstraction #contemporarypainting #contenporaryart #abstractartprojects #kunst #abstractmag #artcollection #artoftheday #modernpainting #minimalabstractart #minimalcontemporary #matsutanitakesada #kazuoshiraga #museumlover #Japaneseartist #具体 #現代美術

🎨 Kazuo Shiraga, a Japanese painter and performance artist born in Amagasaki, graduated from the Kyoto City Specialist School of Arts in 1948. In 1959, Zero-kai joined the Gutai Art Association, advocating detachment from social involvement embracing pure abstraction. Shiraga’s iconic Performance Paintings, inspired by Jackson Pollock, involved swinging from a rope over canvases, using only his feet to touch the paint. Through this dynamic style, he explored the relationship between body and medium. Later, he entered the Buddhist priesthood at the Enryaku-ji Monastery of Mount Hiei, painting under the name Sodo until his passing in 2008. While Shiraga’s work gained recognition in Japan and Europe during his lifetime, it wasn’t until exhibitions in the USA, like Destroy the Picture and Gutai: Splendid Playground, that his art found acclaim. Today, his paintings are held in esteemed collections worldwide.
