‼️Book Review‼️ ⭐⭐⭐⭐ I watched the movie a few years ago and thought I was prepared for how it was going to end but I did not expect this ending. This was a really hard situation for everyone and as a mom of a little girl and being a sister, I do not even want to think what i would've done in this situation. I am glad Anna got to save her sister in the end and hope that eventually they find some peace and happiness in the world without her. Me ha faltado alguna que otra cosa. Tal vez más contexto histórico, porque pasa muy por encima y casi no cuenta nada de una de las épocas más esplendorosas de nuestra historia. . 📖 B O O K R E V I E W 📖 One by one - Freida McFadden 🎧 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ I read one by one as an audio book with @hollyandbooks when we both drove down to @66bookclub_ to meet up. We’d both read the housemaids books together and loved them so were keen to read some more Freida McFadden and at 6 hours, this was the perfect audio for our trip. The story of One by One revolves around Claire, a married Mother of two whose marriage is on the rocks. Every year, her husband and two other couples go on a trip, but this year, things take a turn when their van breaks down in the middle of nowhere. One By One is a slow burn mystery about betrayal and survival in the great outdoors. It is a first-person narrative from Claire so it gets into the ins and outs of how she’s feeling which makes for depth to her character but is also quite frustrating at times. I found some of her reactions or decisions a bit difficult to understand or relate to. I also found her to be a bit of a bland character and I really wanted more from her as the lead. The actual plot has so much potential and I did really enjoy the drawn out mystery to it. I do think it could have been a bit darker and more malevolent though. It felt a bit flat at parts and lacked layers, and all of the action was quite sudden in the last couple of chapters. I just felt that it lacked build. I loved the setting and it added so much intrigue and feeling to the story. It had me questioning what I’d do in the same circumstances. I could really picture it. It was a super quick and easy listen with interesting characters and a plot you want to follow along with. La trama me ha parecido muy peculiar y original, con mucho humor negro, con personajes muy particulares, y con escenas muy bestias y brutas y he disfrutado mucho el libro. Me han encantado tanto Butcher como Blackbird, sus desencuentros y malos entendidos, como va cambiando la relación entre ellos, su competición, etc. Además es una historia de las que cuesta soltar, que atrapa desde el inicio y en la que pasan cosas todo el tiempo. Este libro es el inicio de una trilogía y aunque al final todo queda medio bien, si que ya nos deja una pista y algo pendiente que tendremos que ver qué sucede en el próximo libro, el cuál estoy deseando ya leer. Weekend Book Haul! So yesterday I intended on buying zero books. Clearly that went well! However I’m pretty pleased with what I found. Not all of these were impulse buys either. ‘The Instructions - Bar Mitzvah Edition’ was bookmail, and this edition of ‘Gravity’s Rainbow’ was a gift from my lovely hubby @modern_life_is_mediocre 1. Adam Levin : ‘The Instructions : Bar Mitzvah Edition’ – You made me do this #bookstagram, and it is quite beautiful. I already have a hardback first edition, so this is really a collector’s piece. 2. Thomas Pynchon : ‘Gravity’s Rainbow’ – @modern_life_is_mediocre has always said he’d get me a hardback copy of Gravity’s Rainbow when he saw an affordable one, and so now he has… in Mandarin. (So, a bit of a joke between us, and you could also say a collector’s piece.) 3. Don DeLillo : ‘Libra’ & ‘White Noise’ paperbacks – I’m still on the lookout for affordable hardback editions of these, but not so easy to find in the UK and I love the covers of these out-of-print early 90s editions. 4. Carlos Fuentes : The Death of Artemio Cruz – Another one I’m after in hardback, but picked up this @fsg paperback for just a few quid. 5. Louise Glück : ‘Winter Recipes from the Collective’ & ‘The Seven Ages’ – Because I’ve not read enough of her work, I’ve heard great things, she won the Noble prize and we always need more poetry. 6. Susan Sontag : ‘Debriefing - Collected Stories’ – Never seen this before, nor did I know that Sontag wrote short stories; so really looking forward to this. 7.
