Romantic but bitter, The End of the Affair is a sumptuous affair that is part investigation, part longing, past reconciliation. I wasn't quite sold about how Jordan approaches the material structurally, but I must say that it did work for me in the end. And that is in large parts thanks to strong perfomances by Ralph Fiennes and Julianne Moore, a romantic couple I didn't expect to work so well. The first half made me long for more of Julianne Moore, but Jordan does deliver more of her in the second half, and I was once again reminded why she is one of the best actresses we have. The film looks great, the score by Michael Nyman is a thing of beauty. The biggest problem I had was how awkwardly Jordan incorporates the theme of religion into the film. I don't know how it is in the novel, but here, it didn't feel organic and took away some of the power of the central relationship. Without really saying anything of merit about the topic, why shoehorn it in so heavily into the last third? Attenzione, wall of text in arrivo e per una volta non su roba Square Enix! Il pacco che conteneva il "portasaponette" conteneva anche lei, la Dramatic Edition della remastered per Switch di El Shaddai - Ascension of the Metatron, un gioco del 2011 per PS3/Xbox 360 a cui sono molto legata. Nel corso degli anni sono riuscita a raccogliere diverso merch legato a questo titolo (set di minifigure, shitajiki e ovviamente alcuni artbook) e quando è stata annunciata la remastered mi sono subito mobilitata. Il gioco vede come protagonista Enoch, lo scriba di Dio, che viene mandato a recuperare i sette Grigori (ex membri del Consiglio del Cielo), che si sono ribellati al Cielo e stanno accelerando lo sviluppo della civiltà umana. Enoch deve trovarli e riportarli indietro entro un tempo limite, altrimenti il Diluvio si abbatterà sull'umanità. Primo supporto durante questo lungo viaggio è Lucifer (qui non ancora caduto), doppiato da Jason Isaac e che letteralmente parla al cellulare con i piani alti del Cielo. Il gioco è un single player, in parte action e in parte platform, con un design super particolare e musiche ispiratissime. Il gioco è decisamente di nicchia, ma è una di quelle piccole gemme dell'era PS3, un po' come Eternal Sonata, tanto per citarne un altro, che consiglio di giocare. Questa edizione contiene un drama cd e lo script di tale drama (che contiene anche un sacco di illustrazioni), dove viene narrata la storia dopo il gioco. Il director del gioco, Sawaki Takeyasu (vi ricordate Okami della Capcom? Ecco, lui), infatti, nel 2013 si è ricomprato l'IP e ha espanso l'universo che aveva creato e di cui era stata raccontata solo una parte. Come bonus, per aver ordinato il gioco direttamente dal sito del distributore, c'è anche un set di postcard (postcard 💕).
