I am on my ancestral land in the middle of a dry river bed. The Spanish and Mexican called this body of water the Santa Ana River after the earthquake that happened when they first tried to cross in 1769 on St Anne’s feast day patrontress saint of Grandmothers and horseback riders. The native people, the Tongva or Kizh called the river Wanaawna.
I’m here to feel in my bones and blood the maternal line, ghosts of Christmas past, for the paranormal historical fiction that is my next book. I brought the book Magic in your Genes by @iamcairelle Cairelle Crow to help me with ritual to open that portal. I flipped open the book, such a fan of bibliomancy. I landed on a page for a ritual to acknowledge the end of the mother line.
From this hotel room, I’m looking out at the hills at my mothers mothers mothers have roamed for over 200 years here in the middle of Orange County California. We had a family Rancho of 62,000 acres. This River used to flood and so I’m here to ask questions. The ritual calls for Kunzite which I didn’t have so I held up a picture of the crystal and called it in like we would any Goddess or herbal ally as I honored and named ten grandmothers. Most of them born and raised on this land. The other mothers are from royal presidios in Mexico, going back 7,000 years to Jalisco. I am there last daughter of my line. I birthed sons and my sisters had daughters so the matriarch will continue.
How did I know I would find the perfect ritual? I trust the Magic in my genes.
