Britain is home to so many talented artisans and craftspeople and the glassblowers at Dartington Crystal certainly fall into those categories.
Located in Great Torrington, Devon (well worth an explore too), Dartington Crystal is home to interesting exhibitions and collections charting the history of crystal making and their designs. The collections also include items made for royalty.
You get to see the glassblowers in action and get to have a go at numerous activities too.
Perhaps the most memorable thing for me however was the ability to have my hand print made into glass. You leave a print in a sand box and melted glass (I’m no scientist so that’s the easiest description I can give you!) is poured in. It sets hard and clear and you’re left with a fabulous hand print forever immortalised in glass. When I had mine done, the staff were kind enough to engrave the date and post it to me - as we’d visited for the day and weren’t staying local.
