📍Wolfe Creek Meteorite Crater WA So back into WA we have come through the long shortcut across the Tanami Track - Road - NT/WA and into Wolfe Creek Crater for a night. Nothing could capture this sight better than the drone. My panoramic image still doesn’t do it justice to the shear size of the crater. Wolfe Creek Meteorite Crater is the second largest meteorite crater in the world. It was formed by a massive meteorite smashing to earth around 300,000 years ago. We LOVE off-grid camping. Taking in the peace and serenity of nature, enjoying the quiet places, off the beaten track, away from traffic, the hustle and bustle of the busy city life, whenever we can. If the chosen camp hasn't got any restrictions on maximum stays, that's even better ♥ But what is the only thing that you run out of eventually? For us it is not power (or very seldom though, only when it doesn't stop raining for ages), it is not groceries (we are usually well stocked, our fridge is big) and it's not alcohol either (if there is none then there is none. No big deal.). The most important thing that you will run out of and cannot stay long without having, is ... WATER. That's right. So even with 3x 80 litre water tanks we eventually have to fill up. So, how do we do that without moving the caravan to the nearest water tap? It is actually quite easy: Our 12 V pump from #adventurepumps is the secret. Their genuine interest in our journey and tales of the area kept us engaged for over 40 minutes! Their hospitality and stories inspired us to extend our stay in this welcoming town. Nestled at Apex Riverside Tourist Park, our spot offers a serene view of the Lachlan River. With only a handful of campers, the park's tranquility is unmatched. Oh, and if you want a bit of history, they used to run swim carnivals from the Bath House here, and we were amazed by the collection of pictures showcasing the champions and swimmers of bygone eras. 📍⛺ Brewery Flat Reserve, Narrandera - FREE CAMP Leaving the majestic Murray River behind, we set our sights on the Murrumbidgee River, flowing from the Australian Alps. Tonight, we're indulging in a spacious free campsite that feels like a hidden gem, with hardly anyone around. Nestled in the Brewery Flats area, we're surrounded by the remnants of history, with the towering walls of the Oakbank Brewery dating back to the 1890s. Once a modern marvel with state-of-the-art equipment from England, this brewery once churned out an impressive 10,000 bottles of beer and 15,000 bottles of cordial per DAY by 1921! Although the brewery closed its doors in 1924, the ruins remain, offering a glimpse into the region's rich past. 📍⛺Robinvale Riverside Caravan Park Our last night in Victoria calls for a riverside farewell to the mighty Murray! After a short but sweet stay, it's time to bid adieu and head back for our new wheels. But before we go, one more night nestled by the river was a must. We planned to free camp near Robinvale, but the adventure took an unexpected turn as we navigated the tight tracks which soon became a graveyard of broken glass and old metal fragments. It was here we had two options continue going forward or reverse back the way we came. We choose to go back and after a bit of maneuvering, we found our way to Robinvale Riverside Caravan Park, snagging a spot right on the riverfront. It's moments like these that remind us of the beauty and tranquility of the Murray River. Tomorrow, we venture into New South Wales... but for now, let's soak up every last drop of Murray magic. 📍Oodnadatta SA - Painted Desert 🏜️ Yesterday saw us arrive at the famous Oodnadatta Pink Roadhouse. We stayed overnight left the van at the Roadhouse and headed out to the Painted Desert for the sunset.🏜️ This was a place I had dreamt about visiting and never actually thought we would get there. The Painted Desert is in the Far North of South Australia. It is 71 kilometres west of Oodnadatta in the Arckaringa Station pastoral lease. The entire region is desolate and made up of soft, fragile rock.🪨 The sunset didn’t disappoint and we found ourselves emersed in its beauty. 📍⛺ Riverbend Caravan Park Finding the calm and quiet we've been yearning for along the banks of the Murray River 🌊 Our stay at Riverbend Caravan Park has been a serene escape from the hustle and bustle. Even though we couldn't check in until 2 pm (caravan life, right?), the delay allowed us to sit back for a few minutes after dealing with the unexpected excitement of a flat tire along the way. Thank goodness for tire monitors – they saved the day! While the riverfront spots were taken, our lagoon-side site offered its own kind of charm, at a cheaper price 😉 If we go again, we'd opt for the lagoon over the river, even if watching the houseboats glide by and the speed boats dart across the water has been entertaining, to say the least. And if you're feeling adventurous, there's always the thrill of trying your luck at catching a Murray Cod (or dodging those pesky carp!). Spent two days in Whyalla catching up on washing and cleaning then stocking up on groceries for the start of the Flinders & Oodnadatta.
