It's time for our second installment of "Warm Fuzzies"! Camp is a place where kids learn and grow. Growth can be scary and comes with a variety of emotions from elation to embarrassment. Sharing heartfelt notes of appreciation and encouragement with other campers builds self-confidence in the receiver of a warm fuzzy and is a practice in expression and relationship building for the giver. It teaches kids the value of building up those around you and lessens the anxiety that can come from stepping out of your comfort zone to try new things. Campers can look back on these notes or hold their warm fuzzy plushie any time they are feeling discouraged or down and remember the warmth and support they have from their community of campers. These shared words of encouragement help campers feel seen, valued, and supported and inspire them to share that warmth with others!

It’s that time of year! I have been a Master Gardener since 2015 and the only Plant Fair (which is our largest fundraiser of the year) I have missed was last year. The Plant Fair has evolved to the point that we now take over the entire fairgrounds. We have an entire building dedicated to tomato starts! (Last year we sold 3300!!). This year we have added a place to park your purchased plants while you shop. We also have a huge number of vendors coming, including Cloud Mountain Farm & Woodland Park Zoo. It’s a remarkable achievement, considering this is all done entirely by volunteers. We start in the winter, growing plants from seed and propagating from donations. We do everything - from growing, to transferring to new pots, labeling & pricing, loading trucks, setting up at the Fairgrounds, breaking down and bringing leftovers back. If you have ever been, you realize how much work goes into this. This year is particularly important for us because we need to upgrade the electricity in our Demonstration Gardens in order to keep our greenhouse & plant house functioning. The bid is more than we have in our savings, so we are hoping for a successful sale.
