Do you love to paint landscapes and en plein air or would like to learn, or just loosen up your style? Join us for a weekend in beautiful Huskisson on the shores of Jervis Bay for a weekend of painting. This is a tutored workshop for all skill levels from beginners through to experienced artists, using mixed media and a range of processes to capture the beauty and essence of our surrounds. Susan will demonstrate the skills we will be practising and assist you in developing your own unique artistic style. We will be based in a classroom at the Jervis Bay Maritime Museum, @jervisbaymaritimemuseum where the surrounding area provides a variety of subject matter and inspiration for your artworks. We will also have the opportunity to view the current exhibition of Nigel Helyer and Akira Komada. We begin with some quick exercises, experimenting with a variety of materials to relax and loosen up your approach. You will learn how to quickly compose scenes that focus on the play of light and shadow, lines and form, and then use your smaller studies to create larger artworks that reflect the elements that you have been drawn to in this lovely environment. As we will be dealing with changing light, painting plein air will develop your ability to reduce detail and only paint what is essential to represent the subject matter. If you would like to get out of your comfort zone and try new approaches to your arts practice, then join us for a lovely weekend of creativity. Each day starts at 10.00am and finishes at 4pm. You will also be taken through a series of exercises that identify the key elements that create form using the planes of the face, how to apply the paint confidently and add details that are unique to your model to achieve a likeness. Whether you are a novice or experienced, this workshop will cater to your individual needs. We begin the workshop by looking at a variety of portraits, their styles and palettes, and will then complete small exercises, focusing on the form of the head and its planes. Observation skills are very important to the portrait painter and we will be examining "ways of seeing" to represent form, value and colour. You will also learn about finding relative points and lines on a portrait that identify distinctive and unique features in every portrait, essential for achieving a likeness. Participants are encouraged to bring at least 3 portrait pictures of someone they would like to paint. Join us for a weekend of Fashion Illustration, painting and fabric design at The Jervis Bay Maritime Museum in Huskisson. @jervisbaymaritimemuseum This workshop is suitable for beginners and experienced artists with an interest in the unique styles of fashion illustration. We commence our workshop on Saturday by exploring the current exhibition, "The Craft of Design", featuring two design houses, Collette Dinnigan & Romance was Born, where we will complete some preliminary sketches. Further resources will be provided and discussed to inspire the development of your illustrations and creations. Focusing on the human form, clothing design and materials through a variety of stylistic eras, participants can choose an era to focus on to create their illustrations and paintings. We will experiment with a range of mediums, including, ink, watercolour, graphite and charcoal sticks, dip pens, soft pastels, pigment powders and water soluble crayons, to name a few. You can then choose your preferred medium to create your larger artworks. Participants will learn how to illustrate and paint the human form, taking note of the specific proportions and methods used by fashion designers in various eras to present their styles with flair. This workshop will appreciate all shapes and sizes and how these are adorned to enhance the body image. Fashion materials from "The Craft of Design", exhibition will also be examined to inspire the creation of your own fabric designs. Choose to come for one day @ $160 or both for $290. All materials are provided. We will have a fridge, sink and coffee and tea making facilities. Feel free to bring your own lunch, and morning or afternoon tea to share if you wish.
