Mac Miller - GO:OD AM (2023) “Réveil difficile à la croisée des chemins” ⏳ 70:26 ▶️Moins connu en tant que Malcolm James McCormick, Mac Miller est assurément l’un des rappeurs les plus célèbres parmi ceux qui ont sévi cette dernière décennie : il est blanc, il a de la gouaille, il est sorti avec la célèbre Ariana Grande, il a consommé tellement de drogues que ça l’a conduit à sa perte. Mais vous vous doutez bien que si j’y consacre un post, c’est qu’il y a quand même beaucoup plus à dire sur ce trublion, artiste complet, fédérateur, audacieux mais, comme tous les génies créatifs de sa trempe, en proie à de nombreux démons. Né en 1992 à Pittsburgh, Malcolm baigne dans une famille juive qui lui donne une éducation catholique pour maximiser ses chances de réussir. Dès 6 ans, il touche à de nombreux instruments de musique mais lorgne déjà sur le rap. A 15 ans seulement, sous le pseudo EZ Mac, il sort une première mixtape. En 2010, il se rapproche d’un certain Wiz Khalifa, signe chez Rostrum, label pennsylvanien indépendant, et sort une autre mixtape qui fera date, baptisée KIDS, pour Kicking Incredibly Dope Shit. Il dévoile Best Day Ever en mars 2011, puis son 1er album, Blue Slide Park, la même année. La machine est en marche, et le succès est clairement au rendez-vous ! Trop peut-être, la pression est forte et la célébrité est difficile à assumer pour ce petit gars de 20 ans, en proie au stress et à la dépression… Ses mixtapes en cascade n’atténuent aucunement la hype autour de lui ; il collabore avec Pharrell, Kendrick Lamar sur Macadelic. Déjà, un de ses alias, Larry Lovestein pointe le bout de son nez avec l’EP You. 2013 : un album et deux mixtapes. 2014 : Faces, la 10e mixtape la plus emblématique du côté barré de Malcolm, et sans doute son pic de consommation de drogue. C’est à ce moment-là qu’il part en rehab pour la première fois. Fraîchement sorti de là, il revient alors avec GO:OD AM. The Divine Feminine released on this date, back in 2016 by the late Mac Miller. I was coming back from visiting a buddy in FL with 3 of my closest friends at the time- and we put this album on all the way through. The 15 hour car ride felt on pause while this was playing over the lame Hyundai speakers. This album was already completely different from the rest of his discography- a much deeper version of himself. On the surface it's an album about love and emotional attachment. Looking deeper, you see how vulnerable Mac was at the time to be able to create this intoxicating piece of art. He brought in some legends behind the boards like Robert Glasper & Kaytranada- plus the songs with Ceelo Green, Anderson .Paak, Ty Dolla $Ign and Kendrick really show some of them in a different light. This isn't my favorite project from Mac but it is not a bad album by any means; this comfortable feeling never seemed to go away and carried over into his swimming and circles albums.
