Just in and available! Excellent c. 1930 Regal Marveltone. If you’re following us you’ve probably seen we’ve had several of these recently and rave about them. They are essentially a poor man’s Martin 00. At the time Regal tried to compete with some of Martin’s offerings and we think they succeeded with this model (as well as woth the Regal “Custom” branded 00 models). Very reminiscent of a 1930s era Martin 00. Not for sale! This is a cute little ‘30s Regal-made, 0-size guitar that my pal Erik fixed-up in-shop for his son-in-law. It came out of the collection of one of my consignors as a downtrodden project and is now — you know — a nice player! Good on him. It needed all the usual stuff (neck reset, new bridge, new saddle, level/dress of the frets, seam repairs, crack repairs, brace repairs, you name it) but is now all buttoned-up. Not for sale! This is a customer’s late ‘30s or early ‘40s Oahu Hawaiian guitar — 0-size with a squareneck and solid mahogany throughout the body — that was in for some crack repair and adjustments. It’s like the earlier model 65K but with a stripped-down look. Not for sale! This is a customer’s 1930s Regal-made, unbranded, Dobro-style guitar. Regal made a lot of instruments for the firm but this style of guitar was the version they used (with Dobro cones) for off-brand instruments like Gretsch, Regal’s own Dobro resonators, and various other names on the headstock. It’s got a ply-birch body, dovetailed neck joint (vs. dowel like on proper Dobros), and a more L-00-like body shape. This one needed a neck reset, a lot of ameliorating of warp in the neck via a heavy-handed level/dress job and some tricky adjustments to the board, and then an install and adjustments to a new cone, spider, and saddles. For sale at the site! Here’s a 1930s Regal-made Kingston in a “squashed 00-size” body shape similar to Kalamazoo KG-11s. The similarity ends there, though, as this has a giant neck with archtop-like lines (raised extension) and is fit with a tailpiece and floating bridge. It’s a loud, woody, punchy guitar entirely suited to old-time backup, gypsy-jazz, swing chopping, or whatever you’d like to do on it, really… It was a team effort — I reset the neck and fiddled with a ramped-up extension, Jose leveled/dressed the frets and then fit the new adjustable bridge, and Tim reglued all the back bracing, patched seams, and cleated all of the cracks. Just arrived a circa 1928 Regal Concert Size Custom Built Model Flat Top Acoustic Guitar! *Link in our profile * - This rosewood concert-sized guitar has a “Regal Custom Built” label in the soundhole, but no other branding. Regal offered a line of very Martin-influenced guitars around 1930 with that internal brand, but this one is fancier than any of those cataloged models. One feature it does share with them is an X-braced Appalachian spruce top, an extravagance most Chicago makers of this period did not bother with. ☀️ A few weeks back heading south from Bend Oregon to California for some tour stops we stopped at this beautiful spot called Crater Lake. Truly inspiring place. As we looked out on the lake we thought it might make a perfect spot for a Slide Sunday! A couple weeks later we’re down to our last couple tour stops, Austin, Texas tonight then we head back for our home coming show in Leipers Fork, Tennessee.
