Just arrived a 1962 Guild Duane Eddy Jr. B Thinline Hollow Body Electric Guitar in its original black hard shell case! (Link in our profile). - This is an extremely rare example of one of Guild’s very best 1960’s guitars, the model briefly called the “Duane Eddy Junior” before settling in as the DE-400. There may be only one batch of these “Junior” models, all built in late 1962 for a 1963 launch; the few that have surfaced all have serial numbers that are closely grouped. It may have seemed odd to call this a “Junior’ model as it was a full-sized guitar with professional features; at any rate the designation was dropped almost immediately. - - - #guildduaneeddyjr #guildduaneeddy #guildguitars #guildguitar #rareguitar #rareguitars #guitarsofinstagram #retrofretvintageguitars

Just arrived a Gibson Melody Maker D from 1964. It comes complete with its original brown alligator chipboard case! (Link in our profile). - This is a superb example of the Melody Maker D, Gibson’s 1960s offering in a high-quality student/amateur level guitar. These fine playing if basic instruments offered the hordes of aspiring players in 1964 the feel of the company’s more expensive solid-bodies at a comparatively budget-friendly price. While unadorned with some basic economies (single-layer pickguard, strip tuners, single-coil pickups with unshielded wiring and a narrow headstock with a decal logo) in the important ways this is still a real Gibson instrument. The two-pickup Melody Maker D is actually a fine playing guitar with a fairly versatile sound; the thin single-coil pickups are bright and full sounding but lower in output so lack the natural overdrive capacity of the hotter P-90 and Humbuckers. - #gibsonmelodymaker #melodymakerguitar #gibsonguitars #the1960s #retrofretvintageguitars #guitarsofinstagram #retrofrettimemachine

Just arrived a Fender Telecaster Owned and Used by Tom Verlaine of the band Television (1971). It comes with a letter of verification from Tom’s bandmate @jimmyrip . Original hard shell case included. (Link in profile) - Tom Verlaine needs no introduction to most guitarheads, but few of his fans and acolytes would generally associate him with a Telecaster. From the early days of Television through his long solo career other Fenders, particularly Jazzmasters were famously his stage pieces to the point where he is often credited with saving that model from obscurity in the 1970s. This Tele nonetheless was in Verlaine’s studio arsenal for decades, and according to the included charming and detailed letter from Jimmy Ripp (his co-guitarist on most projects since 1981) was an often used studio tool. - - - - - #tomverlaine #tomverlainetelevision #tomverlaineisaguitargod #television #fendertelecaster #fendertele #telecasterlove #jimmyrip #guitarsofinstagram

Just arrived a 1967 Guild Duane Eddy DE 400 B Thinline Hollow Body Electric Guitar in its original black hard shell case! (Link in our profile). - This blonde DE-400 Duane Eddy Standard is one of Guild’s coolest but less common 1960’s offerings, a serious professional grade guitar with the same features as the higher-end DE-500 but less trim, sold at a somewhat lower price. The Duane Eddy signature line was inaugurated by Guild in the early 1960’s, as they jumped at the chance to create an instrument endorsed by the top instrumental artist of the time. The original signature model was the DE-500, a high-end thinline hollowbody introduced in 1962 featuring DeArmond pickups, a Bigsby vibrato and a master volume knob on the cutaway, features specified by Duane familiar from his Gretsch 6120. The DE-500 was a very expensive instrument, so Guild soon launched a second more affordable model to the lineup. - - - - #guildduaneeddy #guild #guildde400 #guildguitars #guitarforsale #guitarsofinstagram

Just arrived 🛬 for #straturday an original 1961 “Slab Board” Fender Stratocaster in its original brown tolex hard shell case! (You can find out more about it by clicking on the link in our profile). - This is a lovely original Pre-CBS “slab Board” Fender Stratocaster, appearing played in but generally well cared for over the last 60+ years. In 1961 the Stratocaster was still a very popular model but had been supplanted by the Jazzmaster as Fender’s top of the line offering. While many of the Surf’n’Twang players over the next few years would favor those models, the Stratocaster remained distinctive with its 3-pickup layout and unique trem system. Beginning right in this period Surf Master/Originator Dick Dale exclusively favored the Stratocaster, proclaiming he could not see why others would use anything else! Of course by the late sixties the Strat roared back to prominence as the world’s favorite Fender guitar. - - - - - #fenderstratocaster #vintagestratocaster #slabboardstratocaster #slabboard #vintagestrat #stratocasterlove #stratocastersofinstagram #vintagefender

Just arrived an original 1956 Gibson Les Paul Custom! This guitar also has a great back story that you can read about by clicking on the link in our profile.
-
This is a seriously cool “real relic” 1956 Les Paul Custom, showing a decent amount of play wear but with some wonderful materials from the original owner highlighting its history. The Custom was Gibson’s top-of-the-line solid-body throughout the 1950s, a shining “Black Beauty” with gold-plated hardware and deluxe appointments drawn from the company’s flagship archtops. This model was introduced in 1954 with direct input from Les Paul himself as to what he wanted his personal instruments to be. Gibson delivered, and Les and Mary Ford performed for the rest of the 1950s on (modified) Customs. This one was made in 1956 and shows some typical wear from professional use but remains unaltered.

Just arrived a 1969 Marshall JMP Super Bass 100 Plexi Tube Amplifier! (You can read and see more by clicking on the link in our profile). - Marshall amps are certainly a rock legend, with a sound that has defined both an entire style and era of music. This fairly early Super Bass 100 watt head is a real monster, both in volume and tone. Marshall amps owe their humble beginnings to the Fender Bassman 5F6-A, the original subject re-interpreted using English components and originally sold exclusively through Jim Marshall’s London shop. Both the circuit design and sound soon evolved from the Fender paradigm into something entirely their own. * * * * #marshallplexi #marshalljmp #marshalljmpsuperbass #vintagemarshall #vintagetubeamp #marshallhead #marshallamplification #marshallamplifiers #madeinlondon #vintagevalveamp #retrofretvintageguitars #ampforsale #guitaramp #guitaramps #guitaramplifier #marshallmonday #marshalltubes #jmpsuperbass #tubeamplifier #vintageamps #vintageamplifier #vintageamplifierforsale #retrofret

Today we have a 1937 Gibson J-35 in its original black soft shell case. We love the original Gibson J-35 in any form, but this 1937-era example is probably our favorite variant, one featherweight and powerful sounding pre-war Gibson Jumbo! This one is hard to date exactly as the ink-stamped factory order number on the inside heel is mostly gone. We CAN tell you it was number 4 in its batch; the red pencil mark has survived perfectly. As far as we can tell it appears to have had a “C” suffix indicating the guitar was built in 1937, an early style J-35. Distinctive features of these include a dark sunburst top, later to be supplanted by a natural finish option first cataloged in 1939 and more important sonically the 3-tone bar construction under the top.(Link in our profile). - - - - #gibsonj35 #vintagegibson #vintagegibsonguitar #guitarlove #guitarlover #guitarforsale #j35gibson #retrofretvintageguitars

Here’s a great sounding 1948 Martin D-28 in a tweed hard shell case! Read more by clicking on our profile links. - This is a generally nicely preserved Martin D-28 showing some wear and older work but generally well preserved. This D-28 dates to the “golden era” of postwar Country music in the 1940s and 1950s, when few stars of the day would be seen without one! After WWII the D-28 was the biggest, best and most expensive Martin guitar available. The more elaborate pearl trimmed models were discontinued during the war and not revived, leaving this comparatively austere rosewood guitar as top of the line. Despite strong competition from Gibson’s Jumbos, in the later 1940s the Martin D-28 was the final word in a flat-top instrument to most professional players. - - - #martind28 #vintagemartind28 #martinguitar #martindreadnought #retrofretvintageguitars #guitarlove #guitarsofinstagram #vintagemartinguitar

Today we have an original 1954 Gretsch PX 6129 Silver Jet Solid Body Electric Guitar in its original tweed hard shell case! *Link in our profile * - This is a an excellent player’s example of one of the coolest and most striking Gretsch guitars ever, a 1954 Silver Jet. It has had some play wear and discreet restoration but remains in fine playing condition with a killer sound. The 1950s Silver Jet is a relatively rare and sought after model, a variation on the black topped Duo Jet. Silver Jets were only built in very small numbers compared to other Jet models. - - - - - #gretschsilverjet #gretsch #gretschguitars #gretschguitar #guitarsofinstagram

Just arrived a 1939 C. F. Martin D-18 Flat Top Acoustic Guitar! Please click on the link in our profile for additional information. - This is a solid and great sounding player’s example of a guitar that has long been the standard by which all others are judged; the 1939 Martin D-18. This is a played in original 14-fret mahogany Dreadnought that has seen some work over the decades but remains in excellent playing condition and offers the expected fantastic sound. The power and depth of a Dreadnought combines with the sweetness, sparkle, and singing character of the best pre-WWII mahogany Martins in a magical mix, making this an exceptionally versatile flat-top guitar suited to practically any musical situation. - - - - #martind18 #vintagemartinguitar #prewarmartin #cfmartin #martinmonday #retrofretvintageguitars #vintageguitar #vintageguitarshop #martindreadnought

Just arrived for #gibsunday ! It’s a 1959 Gibson Les Paul Special TV Solid Body Electric Guitar! *Link in our profile * - This is a really nice player’s example of a 1959 double-cutaway Les Paul Special, with a well-done repair to the heel (very common on this model) but still an excellent playing and sounding instrument. This one is from the first year of full production when the “Les Paul” markings were still on the headstock. In late 1959 Gibson dropped the endorsement from this model only and catalogued the guitar as the “SG Special,” although this body shape is usually not associated with that designation. - - - - #gibsonlespaulspecial #gibsonlespaulspecialdoublecut #gibsonlespaulspecialtvyellow #retrofretvintageguitars

Just arrived a 1967 McIntosh MC-240 Tube Stereo Amplifier! -link in our profile- - An unusual addition to our showroom, here’s a fabulous example of the McIntosh MC-240 power amplifier. This classic from the golden years of tube audio was a top seller in its time and coveted nowadays by collectors and audiophiles alike. Long mapped-to Binghamton New York, the current headquarters and manufacturing center for McIntosh Labs, the brand was originally launched outside of the Nation’s Capital in Silver Spring Maryland in 1949, founded by Frank McIntosh. In 1956, the brand built their original facility in New York and has since been recognized by audiophiles throughout the world for their consistent and high-quality audio equipment. - - - - #mcintoshmc240 #mcintoshamplifier #mcintoshamplifier #mcintoshaudio #ampforsale #thegratefuldead #retrofretvintageguitars #tubeamp

Just arrived a 1959 Fender Jazzmaster in its original brown tolex hard shell case! (Link in our profile). - This worn-in but super vibey Jazzmaster is from late 1959 is a cool early example loaded with a bevy of classic pre-CBS Fender features. These include the first-generation thick slab unbound rosewood fingerboard with “clay” dot inlay, beautifully faded almost 2-color sunburst lacquer finish on the body and gold “Spaghetti” logo headstock decal. The pickguard is the tortoiseshell pattern nitrocellulose that was a brand new Fender feature at the time, having just replaced the gold anodized guard over the summer. This guitar has no dates is penciled on the neck heel or body but the original pots date to the 26th and 37th weeks of 1959, so the guitar was likely assembled and sold late that year. - - - #fenderjazzmaster #fenderguitars #fenderguitar #vintagefender #vintagefenderjazzmaster #retrofretvintageguitars #guitarstagram #guitarlove #guitarlover #guitarforsale

It’s #fenderfriday so here’s a 1967 Fender Deluxe Reverb AB-763 Tube Amplifier! (Link in our profile). - This is a lightly worn-in but nice early-CBS era example of one of the all-time classic Fender amps, the black-panel Deluxe Reverb. The mid-60’s version of the Deluxe was made as both a Reverb model and a non-Reverb model. Both featured a two-channel layout, one “normal”, one “vibrato” (also sporting the reverb effect on the reverb model) with two instrument inputs on each. A dual 6V6-power section into a 12” speaker puts out around 18-20 watts of power. The Reverb model packs a little more gain in the preamp section and can yield some truly righteous breakup higher on the volume dial. - - - #fenderdeluxereverb #fenderlove #tubeamplifier #ampforsale #retrofretvintageguitars #fenderamplifier

Just arrived a 1975 Travis Bean TB-1000A Solid Body Electric Guitar! Link in profile. - This striking mid-1970’s classic is a very early example of the Travis Bean TB1000A “Artist”, the high-end model in the company’s innovative but short-lived guitar line. It mates their patented raison d’etre aluminum neck/centerpiece with a carved solid Hawaiian koa wood body and ebony fingerboard with pearl block inlay. The company also offered the “Standard” TB1000S, similar but less deluxe, the budget TB-500 and the eccentrically shaped “Wedge” models. Of all of these the TB-1000A is the “classic” Bean, the most widely recognized and fondly remembered model. - - - - #travisbean #travisbeanguitars #travisbeanartist #travisbeantb1000a #retrofretvintageguitars #guitarforsale

Just arrived a 1922 Maurer Flat Back, Bent Top Mandolin, made by Larson Brothers! *Link in our profile * - From the beginning of the 20th century up until WWII, August and Carl Larson’s small Chicago workshop turned out a dizzying assortment of exceptionally well-crafted instruments — guitars, mandolins, the occasional ukulele, and even harp guitars. The catch is, they never put their name on them. Much of their output was contracted to sell under other brands, but this mandolin bears their own “Maurer” house trademark. The brothers had originally been employees in Robert Maurer’s Chicago factory but bought him out in 1900, retaining the trade name for their own use. This one additionally has an incised wood block glued to the back under the soundhole noting it was “Manufactured expressly for S. Ernest Philpitt, Washington DC, Miami, Jacksonville”. - - - - #larsonbrothers #larsonbrothersmandolin #vintagemandolin #retrofretvintageguitars

Just arrived a 1977 Fender Precision Bass! *Link in profile * - This is a nice example of a later-‘70s Fender Precision, with the black finished body and black pickguard look popular at the time. The decal serial number dates this bass to 1977 or ‘78; the matching sticker is under the pickguard. The heel on the one-piece maple neck has a small more obscure late ‘70s green stamp and typical inspection marks; the pots are dated to the 51st week of 1976. The features are typical for this year with the plastic finger rest located above the strings, the poly-finished maple neck with a slim 1 5/8” nut has the large black Fender logo decal. This basic black bass plays and sounds great; it remains an excellent gigging and recording bass and more proof that, even in the depths of the CBS-Fender era, the Precision Bass was a design that was almost foolproof! - - - #fenderprecision #fenderpbass #fenderbass #precisionbass #vintagefenderbass #fenderlove #retrofretvintageguitars

Just posted a circa 1825 Patent Model Harp Guitar, most likely made by Emilius Nicolai Scherr! Hand made hard shell case. (To read more click on the link in our profile). - In the early 19th century, there were a lot of ideas floated on how to improve the recently developed 6-string guitar and make it louder, with a sound able to carry in large halls. Piano and organ maker Emilius Nicolai Scherr, a Danish immigrant who arrived in Philadelphia in 1822, offered one of the most beautiful if outlandish-looking variations on the format. - - - - #rareguitar #guitarphotography #harpguitar #harpguitars #harpguitarsofinstagram #19thcentury #19thcenturyguitar #19thcenturyguitars #retrofretvintageguitars #antiqueinstruments #guitarsofinstagram

Just arrived a 1935 C. F. Martin R-18 Arch Top Acoustic Guitar in its original black chipboard case! (Link in profile). - One of C. F. Martin & Co.’s most overlooked guitars, the F-hole R-18 represents the lower end of the company’s noble but ultimately doomed attempts to challenge Gibson and Epiphone for the swing-era archtop market. The R-series were Martin’s budget archtop guitars, introduced in 1933 sporting a mix of flat- and arch-top style features. From the modern perspective Martin arch-tops have never been well-appreciated compared to flat tops, but in the middle of the depression this was a fairly popular guitar with 304 sold in 1935 alone. - - - - #martinarchtop #martinr18 #archtop #archtopguitar #archtopguitars #vintagearchtop #cfmartin #retrofretvintageguitars #archtoplife #the1930s

Just arrived a 1966 Fender Slab Body Precision Bass! -(Link in profile)- - This instrument is one of the true legends of the Fender bass: a 1966 Slab-Body Precision. Long rumored, occasionally sighted, even a refinished example like this is a veritable white whale. Compared to a stock 1966 Precision bass, these instruments have the crucial difference: an uncontoured ash body, Telecaster style. The neck features a laid-on maple fingerboard, a seldom seen custom-order feature. While never catalogued or formally advertised, two very small batches of these were assembled in 1966. - - - - #slabbodyprecision #fenderprecision #fenderprecisionbass #fenderprecisionbassfanpage #fenderprecisionbasslovers #fenderslabbass #retrofretvintageguitars #realrelic #electricbass #electricbassforsale #fendersofinstagram
