Kathy said, "During week 10 and finals week, the library was giving away snacks for people who were studying at the library at that time. I was able to walk around the library and encourage people with their studying and also spend time with Scotty! It was such a blast. Honestly, I think I'll miss walking up and down aisles and aisles of books. Although I've only used the library a couple of times throughout my undergraduate career, something about the tons of books available just fascinated me. I'll also miss talking to the librarians (shoutout to the Teaching & Learning Services) about our days or something so small. This one's for you, Dad. On Saturday, June 12, I graduated with my Masters of Professional Accountancy. The hardest part of this journey was not the sleepless nights or 5-hour exams. The hardest part of this Master's program was losing my Dad in the middle of it. I took on the Master's program because my Dad was the best in what our family does for a living. My parents will always be my role model in the career I've chosen. And will do good like my father and be the best in what I will practice. Te extrano Apa. Este logro es para ti y mi Ama. I'm going to continue to make you proud. There are not enough words for my family who sacrificed two days to make my graduation 4 hours from home. My aunt, uncle, cousins sacrifice two days of work; this is just a little of what I know. My family and friends have made this day unforgettable and possible. Meet David Wong, one of our Class of 2021 student speakers 🎓 David has fought to protect underdogs his whole life, including spearheading a bill to help secure funding for Cal Grant recipients. Switching majors from outside BCOE, he choose bioengineering to find ways to assist people with tangible technologies in addition to policy changes. David served as the Operations Lead for @biohack_ucr, re-evaluating its budget and programming in a way that helped future hackathons succeed in a remote environment, and rekindled UCR's chess culture by assembling a Chess Club e-sports team that made it to the national playoffs. Before pursuing a master's in bioengineering, David will compete in the Deep Space Food Challenge to design nutritional technologies for future astronauts. Meet Sumanth Dara, one of our Class of 2021 student speakers. 🎓 A bioengineering student from Central Valley, Sumanth drew inspiration from being surrounded by pioneers in the agricultural and petroleum industries. Sumanth plans to focus on nurturing and inspiring future generations of innovators in academia, and work towards developing life-saving technology like his professors. After 4 long years, I’m proud to say I will be graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a Minor in Education.
Today in our #UCRGluckFellows spotlight is a classical guitarist and a graduating Ph.D. candidate in the music department at UCR, Hermann Hudde ✨ As a performer, Hermann Hudde has played concerts internationally. In addition to being a performer and teaching as a Gluck fellow, Hermann is also a teacher of music in higher education. Hermann has also taught a course entitled Latin American Classical Traditions at the New England Conservatory School of Continuing Education, he has published several articles and reviews, and he has been an invited speaker at several conferences. Hermann has also received honors in Dean’s Distinguished Fellowship Award and Humanities Graduate Student Research Grant from the Center for Ideas and Society at UCR. Hermann Hudde is a veteran Gluck fellow, who has done several performances and taught music workshops. One of them was called "Musical Travel Through Latin America with Classical Guitar". During this interactive performance presentation, Hermann used the classical guitar to bring students to a variety of places and cultures within Latin America. 🗣 “The children enjoyed it. I even saw one child trying to imitate the fellow’s fingers as he was playing guitar.
