Jep, als wir neulich in Sri Lanka mit dem Motorrad unterwegs waren, hatten wir natürlich keinen Flower Pott dabei. Ihn aber ziemlich vermisst. Nicht nur, weil öffentliche Toiletten überall auf der Welt oft nicht gerade so sauber sind, sondern auch, weil sie manchmal einfach nicht vorhanden sind. Also ab hinter den nächsten Baum und dann plötzlich juckt da was am Hintern. "Hat es hier Blutegel?" Dylan nickt und ich ziehe noch am Strassenrand meine Hose direkt wieder aus. Und tatsächlich: Gleich zwei der grusligen Tiere hatten den weissen Hintern in der kurzen Zeit gefunden. Big Bend. Big views. Big fun. #bigbendnationalpark is a fer piece of drivin’ from anywhere. But for a remote slice of pristine Chihuahuan desert in the States it’s hard to beat. The stunning Chisos Mountains off some stout hiking and presumably good climbing. If you’re in a Subaru, a 4x4 or similar #overlanding rig the couple dozen backcountry camp sites are drive up access but need reservations. They are totally self-supported sites though, which leaves many users unprepared. Unfortunately the pandemic meant many thousands of dispersed camping sites got trashed. For human waste, a shovel and a cat hole isn’t going to cut it in places like Big Bend. A short-term option is a WAG bag style #groover from @cleanwasteoutdoor that lets you preserve the land for others. @compocloset makes a more robust, smart composting solution. The Cuddy toilet uses a no hassle divider between liquids and solids. That makes all the difference for ease, maintenance and, yep, odor. The darn thing seems to release no odoriferous off gassing. Stowed in Ferdinand’s garage it packs reasonably well and is easy to move around. And, importantly, the elegant (if you can describe a toilet component that way) tumbler handle does its job of mixing coconut husks and all #2. WORLD TOILET DAY is today!! Which means I'll be showing you one of my FAVORITE toilets. Picture 1 is obviously the toilet facility, placed in the middle of a bridge outside Ny-Ålesund, Svalbard. Picture 2 shows off the clean and hygienic standard inside. Picture 3 is the view (or fall) your butt is lucky enough to see if it survives the visit. Picture 4 is the view I could have had if the toilet had a window. But atleast my butt had a view so I can't really complain. My only complaint is the lack of a lock inside, I needed assistance from a helpful human to keep the door shut. I was also tempted to poop, but with 11 people waiting outside with a good view of what came out below, I decided to only tinkle. This week @adambold had the pleasure of attending the monthly @globevictoria networking event at Sofi’s Lounge last week (promoting our upcoming Gay Group Cruise on @virginvoyages), inside @sofitelmelbourneoncollins. The hotel recently had a major renovation with all rooms being upgraded (bathrooms are original but still very stylish with magic mirrors that don't steam up). We were fortunate to be able to book a fabulous Superior Room (36m2) which is their lead-in room, but with hotel rooms starting on the 37th floor of the building, the views are just stunning! These rooms have Bay, River or City views. Adam also had the chance to inspect their Junior Suites, which at 50m2 gives you that bit more room to breathe and ideal for a couple. These views run from the Yarra all the way to Port Phillips Bay. And at the top of the list on the 50th Floor, they have two-room Prestige suites, with magnificent corner room views, and access to Club Sofitel for executive breakfasts, pre-dinner drinks and canapés. Not to mention Club Sofitel is available for other select other room types and has the best toilet views! With the property located at the top of Collins Street, close to the Princess Theatre and Parliament Station, it’s incredibly convenient. And as Adam found out, the Number 11 tram runs from outside the hotel all the way down to St Kilda and the @vicpridecentre (tip - there are free tours of the building on the weekends).
