Big Sandy 📍Marfa, Tx 📍 Marfa is a small town in Texas best known for its standalone Prada "store," but they should be known for this super cute, super creative old school trailer that's been renovated into a lovely local coffee shop! 10 ᴛʜɪɴɢs ɴᴏ ᴏɴᴇ ᴛᴇʟʟs ʏᴏᴜ ᴀʙᴏᴜᴛ📍Mᴀʀꜰᴀ. ⠀ (Save this post there’s some really valuable shit here yo)⠀ ⠀ 1.) first of all this town operates on its own schedule, hours and days where businesses are open didn’t really make sense to me so plan accordingly. ⠀ ⠀ 2.) This town is incredible for photoshoots, raw and untouched beauty is everywhere. Bring a tripod and get to work 🤳🏼⠀ ⠀ 3.) Driving into town the speed limit changes suddenly going from 75 to 35 in a matter of minutes. Saw a lot of people getting pulled over- be aware of this. ⠀ ⠀ 4.) Al Campo- We went 3 times and even ditched our thanksgiving plans to eat thanksgiving day dinner here. Best. Choice. Ever. ⠀ ⠀ 5.) Do your thing coffee: Went here twice. Homemade sourdough + brews = off the charts. Get the Jerusalem toast and thank me later.⠀ ⠀ 6.) Stayed at Hotel St. George all week. Didn’t love it. Y’all I’ve stayed at enough hotels (it’s what I do for a living) to know that they need some serious operational help. The service was lacking even on my lowest standards. I keep trying to give them the benefit of the doubt however, kept striking out. Especially at the restaurant with my choices (pizza burnt to a crisp, etc) it was laughable at the end, we just had to laugh and make the decision that we were just not going to eat here anymore....the drinks were delish though- mixologist was on point. Swing by the lobby and grab a “bullet for the general” if you like mezcal. 🥃 ⠀ ⠀ 7.) I can’t recommend marfa burrito enough. Go here. Bring cash as they don’t accept cards. Anthony Bourdain, and Matthew McConaughey have both visited here. We wanted to visit again but didn’t check the hours and they were closed that day :/ our fault for not checking and taking my own advice on my number 1. ⠀ ⠀ 8.) Didn’t drive to the Prada store because frankly it was 45 minutes away and I just didn’t feel like it, however I did drive to the other IG art trap- the target store in alpine. (40 minutes away)🎯 Went on thanksgiving day so we had it all to ourselves which was badass and I’ve got to say- it’s pretty cool just because who thinks of this -am I right?! ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ Cont. in comments. ⠀

We all have glitches and hiccups, but man I abhor them! No one is harder on me than myself. The first course of this 5-course Agave-centric dinner for the @agavemarfa Agavefest at @jettsgrillmarfa at @hotelpaisanomarfa was a huge disappointment for a number of reasons, but I believe we recovered. To quote the great chef & world traveler, @anthonybourdain, "I'm a big believer in winging it. I'm a big believer that you're never going to find...the perfect meal without a constant willingness to experience a bad one..." we definitely experienced a bad one! Our last stop but certainly not the least! Marfa TX was a small town filled w/ so many gems 👌🏼 . So glad I came across Marfa on @fitt because it’s one of a kind! If you ever get the chance I 100% recommend visiting Marfa & all of the below places 👇🏼 . HIGHLIGHTS: 👉🏼 camping out in our chic safari tent @elcosmicomarfa 👉🏼 everything about @caprimarfa 🙌🏼 the ambiance, food, drinks, & service were phenomenal 💯 👉🏼 Marfa Lights Viewing Center at night (the most beautiful view of the stars) 👉🏼 honey & butter toast & horchata latte from @doyourthingcoffee shop (adorable little spot & great menu 👌🏼)
Well, the first of what I hope to be many Guest Chef events is in the bag. Though the quality of the food I presented wasn’t what I’d hoped for or expect of myself, the kitchen staff and servers were incredible and all worked together so well, books were signed (the whole point of the evening), Texas wines were tasted, BLK EYE Vodka made its Marfa premier, good friends and great memories were made, and quite frankly, there were a whole lot of empty plates sent back to the kitchen, so all in all, I’d say it was a success! Looking forward to being back at the Hotel Paisano for the Agave Festival next summer and many more events between now and then!
