There are two meditations that I revisit frequently – one is a guided, ocean breathing meditation and the other is an ocean drumming meditation. In each of these, we’re asked to close our eyes and let go – immerse ourselves and become part of the ocean so that our breath recalibrates to the rhythm of the waves, and regardless of where our bodies may be when we start these meditative journeys, soon enough, we find ourselves at sea. Part of the sea. These meditative journeys help me to ground (believe it or not) and to come back to my day with a firm sense of being in flow. Seahorses are amazing creatures – some species have mastered the art of camouflage almost as well as the octopus, and in all species, it is the male who carries the eggs and cares for the young. Hello, my oceanic and watery loves! This week’s oracle, The Coral Reef Sea Queen, really made me catch my breath. The Coral Reef Sea Queen is charged with protecting the reefs of our beautiful, blue planet. The keeper of these vibrant marine sanctuaries, she maintains a lush and nourishing ecosystem to the world’s waters and marine life. Sadly as we all know by now, that environment has suffered abuse and trauma beyond measure. Here in Salem, MA (US), we are used to long winters, blanketed in snow and ice, but as the year’s have gone on, we’re seeing less and less of this and more and more loss of snowpack and wildly oscillating temperature extremes. Even now, at the beginning of March, it’s far too warm here. Climate change and collapse may be hotly debated political topics, but the evidence to support them is clear and the oceans are suffering; however, this card brings more to the table than just awareness of the physical environment. That physical space may be viewed as representative of our inner space too, so I suppose that the Coral Reef Sea Queen felt my disquiet over the too warm, snowless days and made her face shown to me in order to bring her greater message to you. I have to admit, I was a little confused when this card appeared again, and although you’re not supposed to, I decided to re-shuffle and try again. Guess what?
