El 3 de agosto 2003. Hace 17 años! Empezaba una aventura que iba a cambiar mi vida para siempre @afsprograms . Con tan solo 16 años, fui por 11 meses a Markesan, WI. Un pueblito súper perdido en el mundo que en 11 meses iba a trasformarme como persona y ver el mundo con otros ojos! Ustedes tienen idea de lo que significa cambiar de cultura a los 16 años?! Irte a vivir con otra familia?! Comer cosas diferentes a las que estás acostumbrado?! Hablar un idioma diferente?!. Dejar a todo lo que vos estás acostumbrado, a tu familia, a tus amigos... por 11 meses. A los 16 años hice por primera vez, y fue la mejor experiencia de mi vida. Fue esa vez en ese pueblito perdido en el mundo, que me impulsó a conocer más, aprender más, viajar más y repetir esas emociones, esa energía, esa adrenalina que te lleva a emprender una nueva vida en un país diferente al tuyo!.. Antes de este viaje yo ya sentía curiosidad por otras culturas pero esta experiencia me definió como persona, como ciudadana del mundo. Fue este viaje que me llevo a tomar decisiones en cuanto a la carrera que estudié, como nutrición (volví con 12 kilos de más por el cambio de hábitos), y fue esta experiencia que me hizo cuestionar la calidad de los alimentos, la cultura y la apertura a probar y conocer nuevos sabores! Claro que Italia me estilizó mucho más con los sabores! 😅Lastimosamente no tengo fotos de ese 2003 pero si tengo fotos de las 2 veces que volví (2008 y 2009) a visitar a mi familia y amigos de ese fantástico año!. About six years ago, right after my eldest was born, we bought our first house. It was a basic mid-century city home with a surprisingly big yard. I remember one day putting my baby in her rocker outside and pulling weeds. I couldn’t believe how grounded it made me feel. From then on, I’d pass the baby off to my husband as soon as he got home from work and rush outside to pull more weeds. Those blessed weeds got me through new motherhood. ⠀ 🌱⠀ Soon I found myself planting a strawberry and raspberry patch, and eventually asking for help to build some real garden beds. We had the best garden of my life that year. It brought so much purpose and happiness to our family! ⠀ 🍓⠀ Unfortunately, life got really chaotic and I’ve yet to have another successful garden. Since moving into #thekingstonhouse, we’ve been trying to make a no-till woodchip garden work, but have honestly been getting nowhere. So, last spring for my birthday, I asked for new garden beds like the ones at our old house. I didn’t get to planting more than some kale and calendula (which is still blooming in the middle of winter!), but this year is going to be our victory year! 🌻 Does your family garden?
