There’s a really great piece of inheritance tax advice that I give all of my clients who aren’t married…….GET MARRIED! Why on earth am I trying to persuade my clients to get married apart from the fact that I do love wearing a hat to wedding? It’s for inheritance tax purposes! If you are not married and one of you dies, whatever you leave to your partner is not exempt from inheritance tax automatically. You each have an inheritance tax free allowance called your “Nil Rate Band” totalling £325,000. But if your assets are worth more than this and you’re leaving them to your partner, they could have to pay inheritance tax when you die. Simple solution? Get married because spouses do not have to pay inheritance tax! And I do love it when I can persuade my clients to get married! I do love this part of my job because you’d be surprised how many people I have persuaded to get married. It really does bring a big smile to my face! So you see, it’s not all death and taxes. ⭐️Calling all mums new to baby classes⭐️ I've had a lot of messages from mums recently letting me know that they'd really like to try classes but are feeling really anxious! I can totally understand this feeling - 💜worrying about parking before you even get to class 💜the thought of walking into a big class of mums who all know each other 💜the worry that your baby may cry or need changing or need feeding in class 💜the worry that your toddler won't do the activities or worse will nick everyone stuff! I used to worry about allll of these things, and this is one of the reasons I wanted to start my own classes! I aim to make everyone feel welcome in class, the first week is the perfect time to join as there are lots of new mums arriving who feel exactly the same as you! Is there a central register for Wills? The short answer is no! So where should you store your Wills? Here are a few options: 1️⃣At your solicitors - If you’ve had your Wills drafted by them, they’ve normally got their own storage facility so you store them at the solicitors. 2️⃣At your Will Writers - some Will Writers also offer a will storage service, so ask them. 3️⃣At the Probate Service - this is probably the closest thing we have to a central government body where Wills are stored. 4️⃣With a Will storage company such as National Will Register or National Will Safe. 5️⃣At the bank - I personally don’t recommend using banks because in my personal experience, it’s quite difficult to then get the Will released by the bank when you need them. 6️⃣At home - if you’ve got a safe or a secure storage box that’s fireproof and damp proof. And wherever you store them – let your executors know!! And keep copies of the signed Wills at home and even give copies to the executors too!
