With over 30% of WA women having their labour induced, this is a topic that needs to be discussed. Women still deserve to have a positive experience and be the centre of the decision making process. Phoebe is a registered nurse and midwife dedicated to empowering birthing women within the healthcare system. With a background in nursing and midwifery, she currently coordinates the Family Birth Centre at Fiona Stanley Hospital while pursuing a Masters in Healthcare and Clinical Research, marking the beginning of her research career. After a decade as a midwife, the arrival of her own baby brought Phoebe a profound realization, she now intimately comprehends the transformative power of birth and the imperative of safeguarding its sacred space. #Strengthtoprogress #STP24 #inductionoflabour #shareddecisionmaking #womancentredcare

Student midwives are the future of midwifery, so it's essential that we foster their confidence and understanding of physiologic birth. Kate Buchanan has been seeking to understand student midwives' attitudes towards homebirth and the midwifery role. Kate is a Post Doctoral Research Fellow in Midwifery with Edith Cowan University and holds an honorary Research Consultant position with the South Metropolitan maternity Health Service. A Registered midwife with over 20 years of clinical experience in tertiary, rural midwifery and homebirth support settings, Kate has also worked in universities as a Midwifery Lecturer and achieved her PhD in 2023. Kate’s research area is midwifery philosophy, ethics and mental health; she is also interested in supporting women’s innate birthing capabilities and the advancement of the midwifery scope of practice. #strengthtoprogress #STP24 #thefutureofmidwifery #studentmidwives

I am so honoured, excited, and nervous to be presenting at my VERY FIRST conference later this year for @rednosegriefandloss alongside my very smart and excellent at writing abstracts colleague @writing_grief And to find out that one of my midwifery idols @hannah.dahlen will also be there presenting is the icing on the cake (and also adding to my nerves just a touch!) #bereavedmother #tfmr #perinatalloss #bereavementsupport #STP24 #strengthtoprogress @strengthtoprogress

Most of us cannot begin to imagine the impact of losing a child but this is the reality for many women and families. Our next speakers, Cat and Megan not only have experienced this first hand but have worked with Red Nose to provide bereavement support to families who have experienced the loss of a baby or child in Australia. They are going to be educating us all on the services available to better support women and their families. #STP24 #strengthtoprogress #rednose #stillbirthawareness #hospitaltohome

Apologies! It has taken me over a week to post this as after seeing the wonderful documentary Born at Home I have been flat out attending homebirths! 5 babies born at home since this screening. I LOVED THIS FILM!!! Even if you have no intention of ever giving birth, let alone having a homebirth, I recommend you go and see this film. Let's help get rid of the stigma surrounding homebirth in Australia. Let's talk about why more women are choosing to birth at home. Let's talk about birth trauma in Australia and why 1 in 3 women leave their birth traumatised. This is outrageous and it needs to change. We only had a short time for our wonderful discussion panel so we will be holding an discussion/panel Q and A event soon so watch this space!! PS. if you want to order a Born at Home the film tshirt please contact me. If you want to come to the Strength to Progress Conference grab a ticket, early bird tickets have almost sold out! We sold out last year and there is a very good chance we will sell out much earlier this year! Lets make change!!! #bornathomefilm #strengthtoprogress

It’s an honour to contribute to the ‘gathering’ in growing good birth culture in the ‘edges’- thank you @dr.rachel.reed for sharing some of my work at the @strengthtoprogress conference recently. #strengthtoprogress #birth #change #solidarity #startwhereyouare #birthecology #rewildingchildbirth

I spoke about the benefits of using your voice and a crystal singing bowl during childbirth in front of a bunch of mostly midwives and some doulas at the very first “Strength to Progress” conference! It was a very inspiring event organised by Dr Clare Davison (one of my midwives) which will definitely have a ripple effect in the birth world. I loved being a part of it and can’t wait to share more about the benefits of sound at birth and ways that we can support women to open up and release their voice to release their baby (and power). @midwife.dr.clare @strengthtoprogress #strengthtoprogress #soundbirth @nicolelloyd_soundbirth #midwives #midwivesaustralia #doulasofinstagram #perthdoulas #doulasupport #birthsupport #birthprofessionals #midwifeconference #birthconference @dr.rachel.reed

I had the pleasure of attending the @strengthtoprogress conference on Friday and all I can say is WHOA. From witnessing @dr.rachel.reed in her element speaking on SOLIDARITY and RESISTANCE, to all of the other wonderful speakers who are trying to create change in the birth world, this event is one that I will be attending year after year in the hope that by gathering these powerful voices and raising these radical ideas, we can reclaim birth. Of course I took my camera along to capture all of the radical goodness and I’ll be sharing a highlight reel so so soon. Get your snacks ready 🍿

Yesterday I had the most incredible opportunity to speak at the 2023 Strength to Progress Conference here in Perth, alongside a lineup of the most inspiring and passionate speakers. The conference gathered birth workers from various industries and professions, all who are passionate about seeing a change in the birth world. My deepest thanks for @midwife.dr.clare and Ciara for their efforts to bring this event to life. With Rachel Reed as the key note speaker, as well as local passionate midwives, birth workers and women who presented on the topics that will no doubt speak change, the conference left me floored. Over 140 women came together with intention, love and enthusiasm to ignite movement. The atmosphere was electric. I spoke on the need for trauma-responsive care to become a compulsory component of tertiary education for our frontline maternity care providers, and the feedback I have received both yesterday and today has been overwhelmingly supportive. It shows me how deeply this work is needed. And it tells me that I can’t stop speaking on this until it’s heard. So, bring on Strength to Progress 2024! #strengthtoprogress

So bring some cash with you or be ready to do a bank transfer. 100% of the money raised will go to Orana House and don't forget it's a tax deduction! It goes without saying but we are going to say it anyway ... babes-in-arms are welcome at Strength to Progress 2023. We know that many of you have the most important job of looking after little ones, if they still require your full-time attention or you are breastfeeding please bring them along. It might be a good idea to bring a pram for them to rest in, as there may be limited facilities. And of course, breastfeeding is welcome. #STP23 #strengthtoprogress
