This show was quite the trip, a trip which I shan't forget very easily. I felt like I was eased into the storyline in episode 1 with a little offbeat humour, but then all bets were off for the remaining 6 epsiodes, jaw firmly on the floor for most of it. It's been watched by everyone, so you can at least find someone to have a quick therapy chit chat when you finish. Synthesis 2: The article “Effects of Excessive Screen Time on Child Development: An Updated Review and Strategies for Management” by the National Library of Medicine brings up an important factor to manage when thinking about getting children involved in computer science. As computer science requires a lot of time looking at screens and being indoors, especially at young ages this can be influential on their development. The article as a whole concludes that “Excessive screen usage can also lead to problems in social-emotional development, including obesity, sleep disturbances, depression, and anxiety. It can impair emotional comprehension, promote aggressive behavior, and hinder social and emotional competence.” This of course can be an extreme case but one to be aware of especially in a modern age where people are more likely to stay indoors than go outside as a parent or guardian it is their responsibility to manage this. However on the other side of the argument computer science can bring a new social life to people who otherwise may not have had one. In an article by Stephan Turban “10 Computer Science Extracurriculars for High School Students.” Shows just how many options you have to engage with others. Computer science is what you make of it, especially at younger ages doing group projects in class can create fundamentally sound social skills and proves that it is not the image of a person hunched over in a dark room typing away. Hackathons have 1000’s of entrants where you are put into a random group and given a task to accomplish, in the nature of competing people will automatically start to engage with one another and build their skills without even thinking about it. I think overall the benefits outweigh the drawbacks, as long as they are managed by a responsible person to prevent people from going down a slippery slope, it can be an overall very positive experience! I loved this film. It follows a group of underdogs attending the University of Washington and is set during the Great Depression. A true story directed by George Clooney of a rowing team defeating more odds than their more affluent college competitors. It moved along well, Joel Edgerton played the coach perfectly and the actual race scenes were done really well, you'll be cheering for the boys by the final race. Meeting "Dr Hfuhruhurr" is still one of my favourite scenes in a comedy (The Man With Two Brains) growing up. Not to mention all the gems that Steve Martin has given us. Steve Martin uses this doco to take us fondly down memory lane, the start of his stand up career, to his huge success in film and now his happy family life that you feel he has spent a longtime yearning for. A kind lovely soul, incredible art collector and so many terrific friends appear through both parts of the doco to share their respect for his work and friendship. There is no question when looking at the hundreds of people that worked on this project, every aspect is ensured to be historically accurate. Wild, weird, so different and I was thrown a little at the start, as it progressed though, it became absolutely compelling and entertaining. I loved every minute of Bella's dialogue as she begins to learn about the joys and woes of life. Her scenes with Mark Ruffalo were very funny. Kudos to the costume designer, and a well deserved Oscar win for the costume eye candy. Do take note there is a fair amount of adult nudity so keep in mind if you have younger people in the household. Emma deserved the Oscar win hands down. I had guessed where the plot was heading at the halfway mark but still enjoyed it until the final episode. I'm ranking this low, not because of the acting, far from it, but it was brutal to watch, every character had so much trauma to deal with. And I kind of got worn down with all their troubles after 4 of the 6 episodes'. I was dreading continuing on. And I was bloody right, there is no finale that made me feel any better about the show. When this show was first announced with Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Daniel Glover at the helm I was pretty stoked. Sadly the partnership didn't last through to filming. Maya Erskine was instead cast and did not disappoint, she and Daniel Glover had great chemistry. The first episode was terrific and I was looking forward to see how it unfolded. Only sometimes did the chemistry, dialogue and jokes not work, which brought down my overall ranking. Their NY home was amazing, I loved it when they had scenes there and to see Parker Posey in this show was a massive surprise and treat. I'd still recommend the show but I would not be rushing to rewatch it. Anthony Hopkins is incredible. This film is based on a true story and whilst heartbreaking, you must watch it. It is a quintessential British film, they have accurately portrayed his life in the late 80's as well as flashbacks to his heroic efforts during the Holocaust. So many unanswered questions, did Robin Wright and Ray Winstone read the script or just ask how much it pays? Do we need to start a #FreeMillie goal from her Netflix contract so she doesn't have to agree to every project they make her do? I would love to see her in a small contemporary independent film as I do believe she's a good actor. Sadly this twist on a fairytale didn't quite work. In one particular scene she cuts off her Rapunzel hair to a supposed killer bob (without consulting Samantha Caine), rips her costume to something skimpy and from there it becomes super silly. No harm in letting the kiddy winks watch it but don't drag it into the sacred family movie night. Each week I was BUSTING for the episode to drop in True Detective Night Country on @binge I absolutely loved the latest piece to the True Detective anthology, now in its 4th season. Set in Alaska and filmed in Iceland with a script that left me wildly guessing anyone could be the killer. Jodie Foster can do no wrong, such a joy to watch her and we were introduced to newcomer Kali Reis, amazing talent and only her 3rd acting job! She is already a titled professional boxer! I went to @sbsondemand and found her first starring role in Catch The Fair One, a complete natural on the screen and hopefully here to stay. OK, so technically not a typical super hero movie that we have been fed over the past 10 years, this is old school without using much CGI. I didn't mind seeing it while waiting for my car to be serviced. My 16 year old daughter thought it was rubbish, told me hundreds agreed on rotten tomatoes. The only critique would be how quickly they wrapped up everyone's super hero character in the final 3 minutes of the film, I felt as though this was rushed and therefore looked pretty odd. Wait until it comes on a streaming service to make your own call. I've seen most of the other Oscar nominated performances and my money would be on Andrew Scott to win the Oscar. He is incredible in this movie. This film is so very hard to review as you're far better off going in blind without any awareness of the storyline. I am happy to chat to you afterwards though, such a thought provoking film, my favourite kind. Based on an unbelievably tragic true story, this film will break your heart at each step of the story. All the cast were terrific, intense and the brothers really showed they had bonded as a family when filming started. Zac Efron especially good and hope to see him take on similar type dramatic roles instead of comedy in future.
