One of our local single day field trips was to visit Cooper's Hill to learn about #landslide. We were lucky with the weather. Dr Queenie Chan and Dr Rebecca Fisher led our #rhulearthsciences Year 2 students on this trip, in the photos you can see Dr Fisher giving an introduction to the group. Geologists love finding helpful scales, and our lovely student volunteered to be the scale, he's in everyone's sketch and we all now know very well how tall he is.
Earlier this year we welcomed our Geography colleagues (led by Dr Celia Martin-Puertas) to be among the first official users of the Low Blank Geochemistry labs 🥼. They were joined by collaborators from Spain and the Azores and used the ultra clean facilities to perform DNA extractions on lake sediment cores. Our Earth Matters So... You've found a painted pebble, leading you to our page? Our department's students and staff have got together working on this amazing project - decorating some pebbles with arts describing what we do here at #rhulearthsciences , and we will begin hiding them in the field 🌎 around the world 🌎, starting from Royal Holloway campus. The bottom of the pebbles will have a QR code so you'd know it's our pebbles. To be involved in this activity, here are the steps to take: ✨1. Keep an eye out for a painted pebble like in the image, with a QR code at the back ✨2. Bring the pebble to the next beautiful natural environment ✨3. Take an image of the pebble with the local environment ✨4. Upload the image on Instagram and tag #rhulearthsciences, leave us a message why you think the Earth matters ✨5. We all wait to see who's the next person to find it 🩵
Our Y1 students went to the Wiseman's bridge in Pembroke today, and we plotted a massive fold structure.
