In the living room at 151 Central Park West, where Heller lived from 1959 to around 1975, he displayed three Jackson Pollocks and a Barnett Newman. The dining room featured a Giacometti sculpture, works by Kline and Johns, and pieces by Willem de Kooning, Arshile Gorky, Philip Guston, Robert Motherwell, Adolph Gottlieb, Mark Rothko, and Clyfford Still. Ben Heller bought Jackson Pollock’s “One, Number 31, 1950” for an apartment with lower ceilings. When installed, it was too tall, leading Pollock to staple the top few inches to the ceiling. Mark Rothko’s “Four Darks in Red” from 1958 is at the Whitney, and Pollock’s “Echo (Number 25, 1951)” went to MoMA in 1969. Heller also owned a notable collection of pre-Columbian, African, and ancient sculptures. Heller met Pollock around 1953 on a weekend in East Hampton, and the two men clicked. Heller visited his studio and was taken with an unnamed painting (later known as “One, Number 31, 1950”) and another that Pollock called “Echo.” The former was priced at $8,000, and Heller initially backed out until Pollock allowed him to pay in installments. Because he liked Heller, Pollock included another painting, the black enamel “No. 6, 1952.” Advised that he could also get “Echo,” Heller purchased that one too for an additional $3,500. In the dining room, Rothko’s “Number 27, 1954” and “Earth and Green” from 1955 decorated the walls, the latter now housed at the Museum Ludwig in Cologne. After meeting Mark Rothko, Heller bought “Yellow Greens” from the Betty Parsons Gallery for $1,350, fostering another significant artistic friendship. In 1955, he promised to buy four Rothko paintings yearly, allowing the artist to cease teaching. Rothko affectionately called Heller’s first Riverside Drive apartment “the Frick of the West Side.” In the bedroom, a Bradley Walker Tomlin painting hung over the headboard, flanked by a Robert Motherwell and another Rothko. Kenneth Lochhead (1926-2006) Acrylic on canvas, “Green Center”, (ca. 1963), 63.75 x 63.5 inches. Custom framed in solid maple floater with a polyurethane clear coat finish. Born in Ottawa, Kenneth Lochhead studied art at Queen’s University, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and the Barnes Foundation. He was appointed Director of the School of Art at the University of Saskatchewan in 1950, remaining there until 1964. In 1955, he initiated the Emma Lake Professional Artists’ Workshops, which brought about a renaissance in Saskatchewan art and helped propel it onto the international scene. He was a member of the “Regina Five,” who exhibited at the National Gallery of Canada in 1961, and were considered to be at the forefront of Canada’s modern art movement at the time. Lochhead exhibited in more than 300 Canadian and international exhibitions, and received 18 major art commissions. In 2005, the MacKenzie Art Gallery marked Saskatchewan’s Centennial celebrations with a 60-year retrospective of Lochhead’s career. “Kenneth Lochhead: Garden of Light” paid homage to the art, teaching, education, and vision of one of the most important figures in contemporary Canadian art history. While the majority of his accolades and achievements occurred in Canada, Lochhead’s work was also well received abroad. A testament to his talent and standing in the international post-war scene, Lochhead’s work was included in the seminal 1964 exhibition “Post-Painterly Abstraction,” curated by the iconic American critic, Clement Greenberg. This ground-breaking exhibit - of which the school of abstraction known by the same name was borne - originated at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, before traveling to the Walker Art Center and the Art Gallery of Toronto. Hasta 1981 grabaron cuatro álbumes con temas como ‘Jack and Jill’, ‘You can’t change that’ y ‘A woman needs love (Just like you do)’. En los años 80 publicó en solitario y logró seis Top40, incluido el tema de Ghostbusters. Ha grabado desde 1982 seis álbumes con su nombre y ha escrito canciones para New Edition, Randy Hall, Cheryl Lynn, Deniece Williams y Diana Ross. Actualmente, ya retirado de los escenarios, compone para otros artistas.

Burton Cummings' 2nd studio album - My Own Way to Rock!! Original 1977 copy This album was a rocker through and through, a great variety of songs and song themes. This album showcased a hard rocking Burton flexing his musical muscles while interspersing the edgier material with tasteful ballads. The album features extensive contributions from ex-Guess Who partner Randy Bachman. Not to be missed: "Never Had a Lady Before" serves notice that this is and album to be reckoned with. It opens the album with a catchy clarinet/piano hook and gritty vocals. "Come On By" is a hormonal ode to rock stars and groupies. "My Own Way to Rock" has become a Cummings signature song, and along with "Charlemagne" provides a lethal double barreled assault of hard rocking piano.
