Qatar Railways company (Qatar Rail) has announced that the total number of passengers who used the Doha Metro and Lusail Tram networks, during the first round of the group stage of the 2023 Asian Cup, from January 12 to January 16, 2024, reached 1,079,340 passengers, with 1,040,973 passengers via Metro and 38,367 passengers via tram. The networks witnessed high demand, particularly on the tournament's opening day, featuring the Qatar vs. Lebanon match at Lusail Stadium, which witnessed a high turn out during the first day of the tournament, 234,862 passengers were transported on the Doha Metro and Lusail Tram networks. The metro provided connectivity to key event areas and attractions such as Souq Waqif, Lusail Boulevard, Katara, and Al Bidda Park, where the Expo 2023 Doha Exhibition is being held, directly connected to Al Bidda and Corniche stations on the Red Line. The Doha Metro and Lusail Tram will open at 10 a.m. on Friday in accordance with the AFC Asian Cup fixtures. It was informed on its official social media accounts that the aforementioned operation hours are only valid on January 19, 2024. On Friday, there will be three matches. The first one will take place at Education City Stadium at 2:30 pm will feature Iraq against Japan. On match days, ticket holders are entitled to a complimentary Doha Metro day pass. Fans may pick up their one-day pass at any station and use it to travel throughout Doha. During the tournament, free transit will be provided to holders of AFC Asian Cup tickets. The announcement was made via social media by the local organising committee, in collaboration with Qatar Rail and the Ministry of Transportation. Beginning on January 12, supporters may pick up their complimentary Day Pass by showing their valid match ticket for that day's (or any subsequent) match at any Doha Metro & Lusail Tram station. Doha Metro has provided information on changes to its Park & Ride service for the tournament in the meantime. The park and ride service at Lusail QNB station will be impacted on match days at Lusail Stadium. Commuters are recommended to park at the park and ride facility at Qatar University station. On match days at its namesake match site, there will also be an impact on the park and ride service at Education City station. As a result, travellers are welcome to utilise Al Rayyan Al Qadeem station's and Al Messila's park-and-ride services. The park and ride at Al Sudan Station will also be impacted on match days at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium.
