The problem with Instagram and indeed any social media is that although it provides a platform to show photographic images publicly it rarely displays the true emotion you experience at the time you were there composing your image. I believe an image needs three components to leave a lasting impression for the artist: 1. Balance 2. Depth & 3. Energy. This is from a road trip we took to Scotland and at the time I was getting quite frustrated by choice ... ’like a child in a sweetshop’ really. I got quite angry with myself inside, and argued with my thoughts, how could I be in a location like this and feel this way. There were so many easy choices to make but I was looking for more, a personal expression that had to stand the test of time. A year on and the emotional response is all the things I set out to achieve… the balance, the depth & the energy are all in the image but most of all, the emotional response has changed into a fabulous memory & experience! Oban Lifeboat aids yacht with entangled rudder. Oban Lifeboat was tasked by Stornoway Coastguard this morning (Saturday) to assist a 31' yacht that had become stern tied in strong Westerly winds just off Port Appin. The yacht had become tangled in the pickup rope from a mooring which had then fouled around its rudder. The yacht reported that it was recording 40 knots of wind at its masthead, and it was agreed that there was a real possibility that the rudder might fail creating a greatly increased risk that the yacht would quickly be driven ashore. Oban Lifeboat arrived alongside just before midday and the volunteer crew manoeuvred the Shannon class The Campbell-Watson alongside, passing a tow rope to the yacht’s bow and then carefully, without putting any added pressure on the yacht’s rudder, brought the bow round into the wind so the pressure on the rudder could be eased. The yacht skipper was then able to release the entanglement and secure the yacht safely onto the mooring, after which the tow rope was recovered and the lifeboat stood down and returned to Oban.
