JUST IN! BROWNIE 🐾 This gorgeous girl was found yesterday and is with us now. She’s smaller than she looks on the photos, only about seven weeks old. We’ve very limited space at our Tai Mong Tsai shelter now (where all the pups stay) so tonight she will be on her own in the bathroom. Too young to mix with the other pups we have at the moment unsupervised. Can anyone foster her for a couple of weeks? PECAN NEEDS A HOME! 🐾 The most gorgeous, affectionate and lovable little dog! 💖 I absolutely love Pecan - and am really surprised that she’s still in a foster home rather than a forever… Pecan is only little, total guess at what she’s a mix of would be Dachshund & Schnauzer. ADOPTION DAY - THE HIVE - 25.5.24 🐾 The weather didn’t stop us having a fantastic event yesterday at The Hive, it didn’t actually rain heavily until we were packing up, very lucky! 💖 We had a great turn out and more lucky pups are in homes! One adoption confirmed, two on adoption trial and five in foster. Our super star gentle giant, Coffee the Alaskan Malamute is still in foster and will be until his paw is fully healed, but we have two lovely families keen to introduce him to their dogs with a view to adopt. Lots of young volunteers came to support and as well as helping out with the pups, they brought donations including toys, treats and blankets. The support from these children is incredible, and very special.. Two young girls from Clear Water Bay school have written a poem about the work we do, I’ll post it later - really is so touching. 💖 Thanks to The Hive for having us and Mark who gave up his Saturday to made sure everything ran smoothly. ‼️ URGENT - MAGGIE MAY! 🐾 Today during our adoption event, I answered a call from a lady who was sobbing and so choked up I couldn’t initially understand what she was saying… 😢 On Wednesday she’s leaving HK for Australia, the person meant to be taking her 12 year old cat Maggie May suddenly told her today that she couldn’t. So, this is very urgent… We need either - * Someone who can take Maggie May until February when she could fly to Australia too (Rabies tests and rules regarding are a faff and that’s the soonest this could happen). * Someone who can adopt Maggie May. To make this even harder… Maggie May is a timid cat who would not be suited with other cats (unless older and likely to ignore her) or children. Dogs - we don’t know but it’s better to say no unless they’d also be indifferent to her and not want to engage or play. I asked Maggie May’s person to send me some info about her temperament and personality… She’s very loved, if the teary call didn’t demonstrate that enough - then the detail and love in her words describing her cat most certainly do, I’ll paste into the comments. If you can help, short or long term with a cat that’s actually very low maintenance, please let me know asap!! SO THANKFUL! 🐾 This week we’ve been so blessed! 😇 We’ve got six brand new dog houses all bought with your donations, 500 towels (used but still so very useful) donated by Marriot Ocean Park (thanks to Dom Dom’s Dog Delights for arranging this for us) AND to keep the dogs entertained while the weather is so horrible - sock toys made with love by students from Clear Water Bay school. Also this week - we were able to pay off our bill at the pet supplies store we use, and a chunk off our vets bills… Hating the never ending rain BUT the response for funds for the dog houses was incredible - and has made things look a lot brighter! ⭐️ Thanks so so much 🙏 Really has made a difference and all this kindness helps make our dogs happier and a lot more comfortable, makes their lives better! UPDATE - COFFEE 🐾 The best news! Coffee doesn’t have cancer!! 🎉 The results of his biopsy came back and the problem he’s having with his foot healing, it’s not due to cancer! Thank God! Hoping that with different antibiotics and medication, we can get the very stubborn sore and infection on his foot sorted, and avoid amputation of any toes. Both shelters are NOT currently accessible by main roads as the flooding is severe. ADOPTION TRIAL - SENNA 🐾 This little love, one of the terrier litter, didn’t come to the adoption event last week as she was just too shy. This week she had a UTI, she stayed overnight at the vets and it was actually the nurses giving her so much fuss that really brought her out of her shell. 💖 This morning she’s gone off to Clear Water Bay on adoption trial. UPDATE - AXEL 🐾 Trying very hard to catch up with horribly over due paperwork for a few hours this afternoon, that includes license transfers, including one for gorgeous Axel (was Max). Getting in touch with his adopters I stopped to look at all the wonderful photos they’ve sent, and how happy this dog is! So sharing… Axel has become a well know resident over on Discovery Bay, he’s the friendliest and most gentle of dogs! 💓 He’s only been with his people for a few months but he’s absolutely part of the family and they adore him! COFFEE - WE NEED HELP WITH HIS VETS BILL! 🐾 Coffee is doing so well with his lovely foster family, he makes friends wherever he goes and is just the most gorgeous boy in every way! BUT… 😓 Unfortunately, the sore paw he had hasn’t healed and it could be something more sinister than we originally thought. Yesterday, Coffee went to the vets to have a biopsy to see if it’s cancer. We have to wait a few days for the results but it’s looking like (at best) he will need to have more surgery asap and lose two of his toes. Nothing good about this but it wouldn’t impact his mobility at least IF that’s what this is. Anxiously waiting for the biopsy results and very sad this is happening. 😢 *The cost for just yesterday - Blood test: $1900 Anaesthesia + Potential cleaning and stitching + Biopsy: $7200 Histogram: $2200 (Four- five working days to get the results) Total : About $11300 not including cost of pain meds and bandages which may add another $300-$600 on top. * Amputation surgery if he needs it, will be at least twice that. 😰 Asking for help with his bill, he’s a gorgeous boy and has so much love to give, we want him to have a wonderful long life. SHELTER CLOSED TODAY! 🌩️⚡️☔️ The dogs are fine, I’m with them at Tai Mong Tsai and volunteers are with them at Ho Chung. It’s the norm at this time of year to have these storms but it’s still very difficult with so many dogs. Last night wasn’t fun!! Only a handful are scared of the thunder and lightning, but that’s enough to keep us very busy. We have some beautiful puppies desperately in need of a real home - but I can’t manage visitors today with so many dogs inside hiding from the ‘Boom Boom’s’, even the most social and friendly dogs are tense. WE ALL NEED SHELTER! 🐾 Especially days like today! ☔️ HK Summer is either blistering heat and humidity or torrential storms… Nothing about either makes being at the shelters easy! BUT as I sit typing now, soaking wet and surrounded by dogs who don’t like the ‘Boom Boom’s’ (That’s thunder for anyone who doesn’t speak dog 😬) I’m very aware just how lucky our dogs are, and saddened that there are so many out there who don’t have any shelter or comfort. The last few days we’ve had some big bills come in, vets obviously - but also for general running costs like electricity and water. There’s never enough time to do artwork and design for punchy FB & Insta content that might generate more response when posted. COFFEE IN FOSTER 🐾 Coffee is doing great in his foster home. He loves all the attention he’s getting, especially the belly rubs which are his most favourite thing! 💖 The blood test we sent off for him has come back as positive for tick fever, not great but thankfully it’s Ehrlichia which is the milder strain that’s easier to treat with antibiotics. JUST MAGNIFICENT! 🐾 I’m surrounded by beautiful dogs and cute pups all day every day, love them all and still find all the different colouring, shapes and sizes that the dog world has to offer quite fascinating. But the Alaskan Malamute… They are just spectacular and Coffee who came in today is simply stunning. He’s also the most gorgeous natured soul, so gentle and easy going.⭐️ He has a foster home from tomorrow and they’re able to keep him until August, unless I can find him a forever home before. Hopefully I can as he’s just so lovely and I’d like him settled somewhere permanent asap. 🤞 He had a bath today - thanks Jennifer @Happypaws for taking him last minute, for a grooming appointment that ended up taking a good few hours! He had a vets check too, we did full bloods and he’s heartworm negative but sadly we’ve had to send off his blood for a tick fever test. His foot needs some treatment and care as it’s very sore. Luckily his foster parents are happy to look after him and give him all the medicine he needs, as well as loads of love. 💖 Thanks to all that offered to help with him. BONNIE - IN FOSTER 🐾 I am over the moon this morning for little Bonnie, she’s left the shelter to go into foster at Clear Water Bay. ⭐️ Bonnie is one of the shelter dogs that I have to seperate when nobody is here, she’s a typical hyper Bull/Sharpei mix in that she just irritates the other dogs with her energy - so much so I’ve had her at the vets multiple times getting patched up! BUT I know she’s a wonderful little soul and with some patience and one on one training, she’s a dog I can home in the future. When Michelle who’s a dog trainer contacted me offering to help with a dog that needed it most, I was very excited. She visited all the dogs and it was obvious she had ‘the gift’ with dogs and I knew Bonnie would thrive her. UPDATE - MUNCHY 🙏 Holding strong…. 💪 Yesterday it looked like she might be losing the battle against Parvo - and I actually dreaded checking my phone this morning in case bad news. She’d stopped eating at all and was extremely lethargic and vomiting a lot more. Stunned but over the moon this morning to get a call (I can’t tell you how worried I was when saw the vets number pop up) that she’s looking better today!! She’s got more energy and isn’t vomiting. Trying not to get excited just yet, just cautiously optimistic… Whatever happens over these crucial next few days, there is no doubt that this teeny little love is a fighter!
