Nochmal ein etwas kitschiges Motiv von unserem Glencoe Forest Walk. Gestern war nun unser letzter Tag in Schottland. Der Abschied von Skye und unserem Cottage fiel uns schon sehr schwer. Es fühlte sich schon alles nach Abreise an. Wir hatten gestern allerdings noch ein Ziel. Es ging nach Glencoe mit kurzem Zwischenstopp in Fort William in der Highland Soap Company. In Glencoe haben wir zunächst eine kleine schöne Runde auf dem Glencoe Forest Walk gedreht, da es ohne Bäume einfach zu warm war und der Wald etwas Erfrischung gab. Dann sind wir in das Tal von Glencoe. Ein schöner Anblick, aber wieder einmal touristisch und irgendwie stört die Hauptstraße 😅 Spontan sind wir dann paar Meter weiter bei Glen Etive reingefahren, was einfach noch viel viel schöner war. Dort sind wir auch drei Hirschen begegnet und haben unglaublich viele und wunderschöne Rhododendronbüsche wildwachsend gesehen. Eine traumhafte Landschaft, die wir unbedingt beim nächsten Mal noch zu Fuß erkunden wollen. We know it's May but we wanted to make a special mention of one of the Friend of the Hound Houndism Pin-Ups from April. The beautiful Velvet 💜 Velvet's mum Brigitte has let us know that this darling older girl has since passed away. Having her featured in our 2024 calendar was really special for Brigitte. Here's a little bit about Velvet. Here are some special photos and the calendar artwork. From Brigitte- My wish was to foster an older, smaller female Greyhound. In March 2019 the 10 yo Velvet arrived at our home. Shy, nervous and probably traumatised having just had major dental extractions, she was just as we wanted. My heart skipped a beat the first time she greeted us with wagging tail. Foster fail after 6 weeks! Velvet was polite, well -mannered and a mostly obedient girl. She was her own person and of course also stubborn. On walks she expected to be admired by passers-by for her friendly and elegant looks. Easy going, she never wanted to get up onto beds or sofas...strange? I was inspired to draw and paint her for her beautiful shape. Seeing the love in her eyes will never leave me. Lily unfortunately has acute pancreatitis. She has never had this before. Most likely post-surgery stress, medications, stress from being penned up. Lily received 100ml of subcutaneous fluids in her shoulder, a shot of Cerenia and a shot of buprenorphine on May 9th. That night, she became hungry and I was able to feed her the royal canin low fat wet food with her pills. I asked for the vet to give her another shot for nausea and pain yesterday May 10th if I brought her in the afternoon and they did. I think we caught the pancreatitis early enough! She’s on all her meds plus cerenia plus Flagyl (an antibiotic). this was our lancashire heeler, pip. she was an absolutely wonderful dog, we joked she had 9 lives! my grandparents got pip for my parents in 2002. she ran into the road when she was 2 in 2004 and a car ran over her front right leg, after a lot of care at the vet she ended up having to have her front leg amputated. from then on she was pip the 3 legged dog, still zooming around with 3 legs like nothing had happened! she was my childhood dog and holds a very special place in my memory and my family’s. she lived until she was 17, passing in april 2020. she had been on heart medication for several years after heart failure around 2013. she had such a strong will. always kept going, with the help of medication, chicken and blankets. we could always hear where she was due to her collar jingling. we joked she would have amassed quite a following online due to how special she was so thought i’d share her on here. you don’t often see many lancashire heelers, especially with floppy ears like hers! the first pictures are of her older, the third being her last day with us. the later ones are of her as younger dog, the very last one of her as a tiny puppy in 2002🥹 just thought i’d show how amazing senior dogs are!! #lancashireheeler #lancashireheelersofinstagram #childhooddog #olderdogs #lancashireheelersofficial #seniordog @lancashireheelersofficial

Sometimes the best plans just don't work out. Our friend, Pat, passed away this past December. Pat had 5 animals in her care at the time of her death; 3 cats & 2 dogs. Pat left provisions in her last will and testament for them, but those plans didn't work out and the animals ended up being left alone in Pat's house after she was gone. There was food left for them but otherwise....they were alone and traumatized. We were contacted and asked if we would take them. Working closely with Pat, getting to know her and her love of animals, we just couldn't let her down; so of course we said yes and made room for them. The cats took some time to calm down and blend in with the others. Jesse can still be quite shy, prefers to hide; but Sassy and Maggie May are thriving. The dogs, Noah and Charlie, were timid, and very needy. Poor babies. Now they are living their best lives with the Starr Crossed Pack. They came with some food when we first received them, but that food is long gone. New follower so a little more about Leida: Growing up among chickens, rabbits, guinea pigs, and a dog, I can’t even remember when I decided to become a veterinarian, I just knew, from very young age. I graduated from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Utrecht University in 1987. After experiencing relief from my own chronic back pain through chiropractic treatment, I decided to obtain my international certification as a veterinary chiropractor (IVCA) in 2004 and start my own practice for complementary veterinary medicine. In 2005, I obtained my international certification as a veterinary acupuncturist (IVAS), and over the years, I have added more therapy options, such as (Chinese) herbal therapy, TuiNa massage, essential oils, osteopathy, and many more. I have always had a soft spot for older dogs, and over the years, I have helped thousands of dogs and their owners make the most out of the second half of life. I have seen the challenges that can arise, both in my patients and in my own dogs with whom I have gone through the process several times myself – I know what it’s like. Have you thought about the type of exercise or the types of movements your dogs or cats do. Do they jump in and out of the car, do they chase after the ball, do they jump on and off the bed? As younger animals they appear to do this so effortlessly. But did you know as they age, they may experience aches and pains associated with the pressure placed on their muscles and joints from these sorts of activities. And even though they are unable to tell us of their discomfort, we can see them getting up a little slower or they may not be so keen to chase that ball or run or go for their walk. There are, however, alternatives. Provide a ramp or stairs for you animal so they can get in and out of the car or on and off the bed easily and with minimum impact on those joints and muscles. Replace the repetitive ball throwing with activities that are calmer, gentler and kinder on their bodies – activities such as nose work or slow sniffing walks.
