Custom built a larger than life storybook for a holiday display in a mall. This was a really fun project to tackle from conceptualizing to creating a final product to sit safely in public. Another carving to do soon 🍂 Carving takes a substantial amount of time compared to geometric stamping (Carlos, basketweave, patterns, seashells, geometrics). It is the free form of cutting into the leather to get depth and then shaped stamp tools carve the design by hitting them with a maul, with multiple tools needed. Sometimes I can use 20-25 tools for one carving, easily. Each tiny mark is a tap of the maul onto a tool.. Each line is a lot of tapping along it. Some carvings can take a full day, yet a basketweave in the same area could be a quarter or less time, depending on the complexity of the carving it’s compared to. And the initial design work can take just as long.. Finally, I feel good enough to post pictures of this custom desk that I just finished up for the same clients from my previous posts. This custom deep, pour resin desk is definitely a one of a kind with the waterfall feature and keeping the live edge feature of the slab.
