Kirby Muxloe Castle, also known historically as Kirby Castle, is a ruined, fortified manor house in Kirby Muxloe, Leicestershire, England. William, Lord Hastings, began work on the castle in 1480, founding it on the site of a pre-existing manor house. William was a favourite of King Edward IV and had prospered considerably during the Wars of the Roses. Work continued quickly until 1483, when William was executed during Richard, Duke of Gloucester's, seizure of the throne. His widow briefly continued the project after his death but efforts then ceased, with the castle remaining largely incomplete. Parts of the castle were inhabited for a period, before falling into ruin during the course of the 17th century. In 1912, the Commissioners of Work took over management of the site, repairing the brickwork and carrying out an archaeological survey. Tiki Huts Hello Lovely People 🥰 We did a thing & installed four Tiki Huts in our garden. We’re learning in real time how we want to operate them so these usage guidelines are subject to change. Tiki huts seat six comfortably for meals, but up to ten for drinks & snacks. There will be NO charge to use / reserve them but we are asking for a £30 deposit which will be taken off the bill. When they are not booked guests are welcome to use them on a walk in basis. Food & drinks are both bar service for ordering but Wed - Sat we will bring your food to you when it’s ready. We ask you to share your hut with others if you’re one or two guests. Sundays are drinks only. Tiki Huts are lit, heated & dog friendly. By summertime they will also have curtains to keep the wind out. We absolutely love them. So easy to settle in for the day / night with friends & family. For many years sand and gravels have been extracted in the Soar Valley, and the lakes of Watermead are the old extracted pits. In the early 1990s, a vision of restoring the area and establishing an area for wildlife and recreation was drawn up by Leicester City Council, Leicestershire County Council, and Charnwood Borough Council. Today there is a variety of waterfowl, with lots of goslings following their parents around today - the dog was kept on a tight leash to stop him chasing and scaring the birds.
