Getting closer! I've borrowed the rear valance from the blue imp, the car this engine setup will be going into. With a valance in place in finally able to really get an idea of how it looks in there and the amount of space behind the crank pulley. Lots of room! I can still easily get to the oil filler cap, press the magic button and light up the oil level sight window 💡😎 The main reason for robbing the blue car of its valance is so I can start to build the exhaust silencer box that will be mounted across the back. I've now got some dimensions to work with and will first be constructing the box with the fixed position inlets and outlets. Then I'll construct the inside layout, the design of which I'm still mulling over. It has to be sporty and not lose the flat six growl but not be too punishing on the ears. A tricky thing to get right first time. It's been 11 years to the day since I first bought the 900! I'd had several 900s and 9000s up to this point but wanted to buy a bog standard looking flat fronted 4 door saloon to make into a sleeper. It does look like that in 10 years there's been pretty much minimal changes but in reality it's a totally different car to how it was. Car back out on the road after 4 weeks in the garage doing some upgrades to the cooling system and replacing the steering rack. Couple of adjustment to make to the alignment as I drive it more. Now for the next round of jobs to sort in the interior and engine bay and as usual the list only seems to get longer. A few weeks back I needed a hand emptying a van and picked up good friend @widearch_dolly_resto . He helped me empty the van, we had a beer or 2 then the next morning he borrowed my 900 to get home. It sat at his for a few weeks and I collected it yesterday to find he's totally polished it 😍 Old red paint goes flat so quickly and I reckon I last polished this car for mine and @rowsindrey wedding back in 2015! Obviously it still has flat paint where some of the doors are ready for the bin but 80% of it looks amazing! After being together for over 2 years the Commer finally saw a Dyno! Rather than do any sort of tuning or chasing figures I wanted to see why it was so slow! Turns out what I thought was too much boost and not enough fuel was too much fuel and not enough boost 😄 9:1 in the AFRs and full boost which was supposed to be 1.2 bar is just 0.8! It made 178hp on low boost (0.45 bar) and 209hp on 'full' boost (0.8 bar). Combination of a cheap boost gauge that reads off the scale and cheap wastegates that don't want to hold boost meant I didn't really know where I was at.
