Yesterday I collected the Maestro from @gresswells_ (Aka Josh) who has made it a little more low car friendly. I initially found Josh through @taylorhetherington_ ‘s E28 videos (which you should check out btw) and was massively impressed with the work I saw him doing. Safe to say Josh did a fantastic job of adding a skid plate to my sump in case it ever catches on anything so it won’t get smashed to bits. Josh is a top bloke and I would recommend him to anyone needing some fabrication work done, be it a Maestro or a bagged RX-7 and I will be using him again for fabrication work 100%. #maestro #austinmaestro #modified #modifiedcars #fabrication #welder #loweredcar #classiccar

Exploring new territory can lead to some hidden gems being unearthed, so after getting the train into London, I had a very memorable day out with @ulez.victims trying to find some of these hidden artefacts around some of London's lesser explored areas. I can't find any other trace of this car online, so I like to think it's a fresh find. Always satisfying to tick a new car and document it, as one day it could be loaded onto the next ASM lorry and never seen again. The area this resided- Thamesmead; one of the most notable and infamous social housing estates, famous for its brutalist architecture, vast tower blocks and is the definition of urban hell. Notable for its appearance in A Clockwork Orange and Misfits. This Maestro will never see the road again. A 1990 Rover Maestro Clubman Automatic 1.6. The car spotter's pilgrimage, this dealership closed in 2002, over which time many cars have been saved. Remaining are only the Cavalier (another post for that at some point) and the Maestro. Obviously the Maestro has pretty bad rust, but the majority of its damage (compared to the last photo from 2009) is from vandalism. I wonder what car the various vandals and looters drive? The pre MOT work has been done including new fuel lines (as the 1 year old ones were already knackered) a backbox delete as it was knackered and then a good thorough battery charge! To think this would be demoted from its title of my spot of the year in just a couple of weeks is still baffling to me, however I firmly believe this is the absolute pinnacle of homegrown chod, and will forever be a favourite of mine. This lowly maestro ticks every chod box. Missing grille? Check. Window smashed in only to be replaced with an amazon box and some sellotape from the range? Check. Not a single panel featuring the same colour? Check. Check. Check. I spent a good ten minutes taking in every detail of this car, trying my hardest to stop my permanently dropped jaw from getting gravel rash. Everywhere you'd look, there would be a new detail that made it feel even more like the hero car of a sitcom akin to only fools and horses or a sketch from the fast show. Id already had a staggering streak of luck the day i found this, which only fueled my motivation to keep peering down every street and alley i could find in bristol, by this point id covered 12 miles and i dont regret a single inch of them! To wrap my arduous journey up with the hardiest maestro I've ever seen was truly the icing on the cake and has proved to me a couple of important things about this particularly peculiar hobby. Firstly it goes to show, again, just how under explored the south west is, as I belive this jalopy will be a first on your feed. Secondly, and most importantly, it proved the golden phrase most are all sick to the back teeth of more than any other vehicle I've come across, they're still out there! Seriously, if you reach a point where you think every street is accounted for, I urge you to snoop down another. Especially after finding the golden turd of maestros, no oap residence will be too far out of reach for me now because I seriously don't think it gets much better than this. What makes this thoroughbred heap of scrap iron even more special is the fact it's been less than two years since it turned a wheel in 'anger' on our roads, by which point it had collected every scab and blemish it wears proudly today.
