The goats have stolen our hearts too. Most of our herd are Myotonic Goats aka Fainting Goats, but, we also have a Nigerian Dwarf (Vanilla Bean) and two that are mixed (Marshmallow & Smores) so we can hopefully get more milk! Jay made a great milking stand, but Cupcake our doe that had Bailey this year really didn’t have much milk to give me and she wasn’t very happy getting milked! Maybe if I was more consistent with trying I would have gotten more, but her udders are nothing like the Nigerians and I found it quite difficult to try. I promised Jay that we wouldn’t add any new animals this year! Well, in July I caved and brought home Kunekune pigs, whom we absolutely adore! They roll on their backs for tummy rubs when they see us. After the pigs, I said, don’t worry, that is it…. Well a few days ago, I informed Jay that I bought some more livestock, and they were coming EARLY, but, I didn’t have housing for them….. eeek. So the trooper that he is built me a new enclosure while I was at work and I love it! Meet Boris and Beatrix! They are giant Dewlap Toulouse Geese and are four years old. The kids and I went on an adventure to Salt Spring Island to pick them up last week and we had a lot of fun! Except that the 2nd ferry was full so we had to wait until the next sailing, that was a bit frustrating as we only had the one day to explore. First we went to Elsie’s farm and she made us the most amazing lunch! My kids and I are still raving about it, I wish I had her cooking skills! We explored her beautiful farm and saw all her amazing animals and her garden. Then we followed Bree back to her farm where we got a tour of her amazing farm as well! Bree shares a passion of breeding rabbits and is always a wealth of information. Connor really wants some of her bantam Nankin chickens because they are so adorable. She also has a manx cat whom Brooklynn really wanted to take home and we are still having daily talks about why the kitty didn’t have a tail! Its a miracle! My Cayuga ducks FINALLY started to lay yesterday. I have no idea what time line they are on, but they are wayyyyyyy behind! It gives me hope that the Sebastopols will still lay as only 4 of my 12 females laid! Which is terrible, but most are first years and the ganders don’t seem to be doing their job. Cayugas lay black eggs and as the season progresses they eggs laid gradually fade in colour. They lay between 100-150 eggs per year, which isn’t fantastic compared to some of the other light weight, but they are beautiful and are on the watch list on the livestock conservancy list. #theforestguild #cultuslake #lindellbeach #columbiavalley #cayuga #cayugaducks #ducks #watchlist #livestockconservancy

Physically Jay is making strides every day, he lost a lot of muscle & weight so it will take some time to feel strong again. Mentally it takes a lot longer as he has to come to grips with coming so close to death, and just the effects of seizing for so long as it really rattles the brain. EPILEPSY SUCKS!!! We went to pick up bales of hay at one of our neighbours houses and to our delight we were greeted by ten of the cutest Maremma Sheepdog puppies! Like Oslo, Jays service dog, Maremma are also working dogs and boy do they love to work! They are Livestock Guarding Dogs (LGD) and are great at both protecting and herding their flocks. They also love to sleep in a big pile of snow! As a child, every summer was spent at my grandparents' cozy cabin at Lindell Beach. The days were filled with swimming in the lake, fishing for minnows, and picking wildflowers (or collecting snails) in the yard.
