Happy Sunday. I’m swooping in with an (unpaid) personal recommendation. I’ve already talked a lot about how the little Mwezi got my back into the journaling game. (I actually even published the very first blog post on my new website about it. Go check it out if you want to). In there I used a Moleskine pocket cahier. Well, we all know that that paper unfortunately isn’t the greatest anymore but I prioritised the need to write over the desire to use watercolour and fountain pens, because I just needed to get thoughts out of my head. Now the pocket cahiers in green haven’t been available available for a while so I started to look for alternatives and found these @rhodia_officiel inserts in pocket and I couldn’t be happier! The paper is amazing, the design is very pretty and they combine the best of both worlds. I finally get to use my fountain pens and watercolours again while having the same slim fit that I liked about the Moleskine cahier. 🥰 Now that the weather is getting better I’m so excited for some outdoor sketching sessions in addition to the journaling in the forest. I guess sometimes one door has to close in order for you to realise there’s better options. 👩🏽🎨

I've been experimenting with hand cut lino based stamps for a few years now but always been frustrated by the limitations on detail I was able to get using hand tools and a very unpredictable medium - plus the time it takes to carve them, especially when they're small. I took the plunge last week and ordered a laser cut stamp and I'm really happy with the results. I like hand carving designs onto my leather products but it adds a significant amount of time onto the process and raises the number of coins I have to demand in exchange fo ownership. I've wanted to make the process quicker and less heavy on the pocket for you all for a while now and I think this is the way forward. My plan is to build up a library of stamp designs to use on all the various products I make, i.e. bags fronts, journals, bookmarks, purses etc. Now I've proved the concept I'm going to get to work designing a load more stamps! Young Poet and Kahawa - the perfect duality. ☯️ I was almost exclusively using a Young Poet in different sizes and styles for the last years, simply because they are my favourite. But now that I got my hands on this new (updated) Kahawa leather I kind of unexpectedly fell in love with them head over heels again. In 2017 just after I started Mansorah Atelier they (Young Poet and Kahawa) both were my stables and I’ve documented so many memories in some of them. But all my old covers that I’ve had in this leather just felt like I had outgrown them. For one, my craft improved and I would be a bit nitpicky about some things that I’ve done back then, that I wouldn’t do anymore now. And second I also feel like some covers belong to certain chapters in your live, that simply are over. Because of the dying process I also don’t want to make myself new ones but now with this leather being available from a tannery and me thus being able to make new, elevated Kahawas, it feels just like running into an old friend, that you haven’t seen in many years in which you both changed but instantly feeling that spark of connection and trust and familiarity again. 🤎 Oh how I can’t wait to write down new memories and adventure reports in them. 🥰 P.S. call me crazy for anthropomorphising these covers but I don’t care. I create them with passion and put a bit of my soul in every single one, and they have been such an important part of my life in the past years. So there’s no shame in calling them a piece of yourself. 🤎

Shop Update 🌱or: „after all this time?“ yes… I’ve finally added ring binders to the portfolio. Let me tell you a little background story about this small odyssey that we took to get here. There’s a popular, high quality brand for ring mechanics that I (as many others) set my little heart on. „If I offer ring binders, then only with these mechanisms.“ However, I made three separate attempts over the years to buy them and communication always died off on their end so i eventually gave up and set the idea of ring binders aside completely. Until I realised that nothing about the situation will change and I might as well look for alternatives. And in doing so I found these mechanisms, that I’m actually much more happy with than the other popular brand and let me tell you why: The rings are attached through two screws and they don’t require a sewn in backplate. That actually comes with a lot of advantages: 1. it makes whole binder a lot less bulky. 2. should they get damaged or break you can very easily switch them at home with just a screwdriver 3. the whole process of making them is significantly less work so I can offer them for a much more reasonable price 4. they work with every leather that I offer at the moment, which brings me to my next point: I currently don’t have any available ready to ship, because I want to finish some custom orders before working on another restock. But also because I have no idea what you prefer and don’t want to just shoot into the blue and waste resources. That means for you: if you want me to make a custom personal or personal wide ring binder for you, just send me a DM or email and we can work out your order. ✨ (Please note that I currently don’t have any pocket size mechanisms available and in A5 only two in a more toned down gold.)

Today I saw the the question from @wholly_bright_ - how to remove the water stains from leather? So I made a small instruction and decided to share it, if anyone has the same problem 😅 First of all you have to wet the all leather surface (not to have new stains on border) heavily and spread the water. The surface should be wet enough so previous stains won’t be visible. And let it dry 😉 Funny thing - the oil stains can be removed the same way with oil, just apply it a bit lighter with a sponge - not directly on leather. And leather might get darker a bit after oiling 😉 #Handstitchedleathert #hslt
