Latino entrepreneurs play a major role in the U.S. economy: More than 3 million people are employed by nearly 350,000 Latino-owned businesses. These businesses are also the fastest-growing segment of the U.S. business population: From 2007 to 2019, the number of Latino-owned businesses grew by 34% while the number of White-owned businesses fell by 7%. And many are bouncing back from the economic shock of the COVID-19 pandemic: Between 2019 and 2022, Latino-owned businesses reported median growth of 25%, compared with 9% for White-owned businesses.

The 2020 census documented that Latinos are the hardest working, most diverse, entrepreneurial and youngest people in the US. By sheer numbers alone, Latinos will shape the 21st century. Latino-Owned Businesses May Be the U.S. Economy’s Best Bet. Latino entrepreneurs are starting small businesses faster than the rest of the startup population and becoming a bigger part of the total U.S. market every day. Estimates are that they will make up 29 percent of the U.S. population by 2050, up from 17 percent today.
The gap between the labor force and executive representation is wider among Hispanics than any other group. Research indicates that boardroom diversity can positively impact both profitability and job satisfaction within companies, in particular by bridging the divide between company executives and lower-level employees.

We concluded that they are not perfect and it's hard to represent an entire country through 2 people. However, we're so excited to see how far this #tech has evolved in such a short time! For those of you new to #artificialintelligence images: - These are not real people - A computer program 'imagined' them based on the instructions we gave it. Before Hispanic Heritage Month ends, NLCUP wants to highlight the incredible work that one of our board members is doing, Pablo DeFilippi! He has been named one of the most Influential Latino Leader. We extend a HUGE congratulations to our honorable board member! Here is what the article wrote about him: Pablo DeFilippi leads membership development and engagement strategies for Inclusiv, an organization that helps low- and moderate-income people and communities achieve financial independence through credit unions. He manages Inclusiv/Network, a network of community development finance practitioners that provide valuable consulting services to CDCUs. Mr. DeFilippi has more than 20 years of experience in community finance, working with regulated financial institutions both in the domestic and international arena. Originally from Chile, DeFilippi came to the US in the early 90s and almost immediately became involved in credit unions. After working at MCU, a large credit union serving New York City employees, he joined the Lower East Side People’s FCU (LESPFCU) a credit union serving Hispanics and other underserved populations in the New York City area and acted as its CEO until early 2004. From then and until the end of 2005, Mr. DeFilippi managed the World Council of Credit Unions, Inc. (WOCCU)‘s International Remittance Program (IRnet), a world-wide initiative to provide alternative remittance services to consumers both in the US and in recipient countries through the credit union system. DeFilippi holds a B.A. in Social Studies from Universidad de Chile, as well as a Professional Accounting Certificates from Baruch College and New York University. He has a Masters of Business Administration from Pace University, and is a graduate of CUNA’s Management School and NCUF’s Social Impact Management Institute. He is also a Credit Union Development Educator (CUDE) and a UK Credit Union Development Educator. We are honored to have his guidance here at NLCUP!
