I love holding hands. Anyone else? 🥰 I also love when Maya and Carina hold hands. This hand hold is from 4x14. I worked from a blurry screenshot I took because I wanted to draw one of these moments. It’s little details like this in episodes that Danielle and Stefania bring to life in Maya and Carina. They have talked about how not every little action is written in the scripts, and so they sometimes fill in moments with nuances through their actions. The two of them have a brilliant chemistry and their instincts are always perfectly aligned with the scenes. Danielle and Stefania truly give everything to these two characters and to the beautiful relationship of Marina. With the little moments they have been given and with things being cut, I am grateful for every single second they’ve ever been on our screens because I truly have never seen a more powerful and positive representation of a wlw couple on television. Carina tells Maya her eggs are not a viable option anymore. Maya then says, “What about my eggs? Can we use my eggs? Today is a special day.. not only is it Station 19 day, but it’s also Stefania Spampinato’s television directorial debut on Station 19! 🔥🥳 ✨ Stefania started out as a guest star on Greys as Dr. Carina DeLuca, meant for only a few episodes, but with the light she shines, she was recurring for seasons 14-19. Then she came onto Station 19 in season 3 and being the absolute magical human she is, and the chemistry her and Danielle have playing Maya and Carina, she became a series regular on Station 19 in season 4. There was a moment, after Maya, Ben, and Andy treat the protester, when Andy makes a comment to Maya. You can see for a second, Maya taking in the fact that these protesters are against her. Danielle Savre does a fantastic job of expressing emotion without a single word. There were so many powerful moments in this episode that Danielle was absolutely brilliant in playing Maya, working through the heartbreak of seeing her brother as a protester, as well as the pain so many queer people feel when faced with such hate about living authentically as ourselves. This is why we must fight to save Station 19. From their individual journeys to their epic love together as a wlw couple, married, and now starting a family. The storylines have helped normalize queer love and allowed millions to feel seen and represented. These characters, Maya and Carina, along with the actors who play them, Danielle Savre and Stefania Spampinato, has inspired, changed, and saved lives. On this Happy Station 19 Day, it’s their PRIDE episode! To say I’m excited is an understatement. When we so rarely see positive queer representation on television, let alone, network television, it truly means the world. 🌈 Maya Bishop has become a massive inspiration in the queer community and along with Danielle Savre, who does the brilliant job of playing Maya, we see them both as icons. Showing up authentically and unapologetically is so important to see on screen.
