May is #museummonth! This structure was built around 1830 for Irish immigrants, Thomas and Margaret Montgomery, who operated an inn here on their large, prosperous farm. Situated on Dundas Street, one of Upper Canada’s main highways, the inn was a favourite stopping place for travellers. Its large rooms also provided space for public meetings. The Home District Council designated Montgomery’s Inn as the site of Etobicoke’s annual township meetings in 1847 and 1849. Thomas Montgomery no longer operated the inn after his wife died in 1855, but the property remained a farm until it was sold by, family descendants in 1945. The building served as a Presbyterian church from 1946 to 1962, after which it was nearly demolished. It was saved by the Etobicoke Historical Society, and became a public museum in 1975. The main section of this building is a fine example of vernacular Georgian architecture in Ontario. Merci et félicitations aux élèves de la classe de 5e E parcours ArchiValdo du collège Pierre Valdo (Vaulx-en-Velin) d'avoir animé la promenade, et aux participants d'être venu marcher avec eux ! Nous avons échappé de peu à la pluie mais la bonne humeur était au rendez-vous. Le site de l'ancien supermarché Casino aujourd'hui un joli champ de fleurs enchanteur était pour les collégien·nes un lieu magique où il y avait des choses pas chères voire où on leur faisait des cadeaux (merci aux parents 😆) ! Le goûter s'est fait en beauté avec l'intervention de la @compagnie_xy qui réalisait une performance dans l'enceinte du collège, captivant et sublime 🤩 🎉 Et c'est pas fini ! In Dübendorf wurde auf dem Jane’s Walk vom Stadtzentrum an den Stadtrand über Stadt- und Freiraumentwicklung einer wachsenden Stadt diskutiert. Wir haben gelernt, dass an den Stadträndern anstelle von Gewächshäusern Hochhausquartiere entstehen und mitten in der Stadt «Wilde Gärten» entstehen. Orte in Bewegung ⛹️♀️🍃 Unter diesem Motto beteiligten wir uns am 03.05.2024, gemeinsam mit dem Stadtumbaumanagement Schönefeld (link), zum zweiten Mal am internationalen Fußverkehrsfestival Jane’s Walk. Auf dem Weg von Mockau nach Schönefeld wurden altbekannte Orte neu entdeckt und erkundet: entlang großer Straßen, aber auch kleinen Trampelpfaden spazierten wir gemeinsam durch die Quartiere. Dabei bot sich reichlich Zeit, miteinander ins Gespräch zu kommen und sich auszutauschen. Bei Kuchen und Getränken ließen wir den Spaziergang am neu eröffneten Fitnessplatz im Mariannenpark anschließend gemütlich ausklingen. Caminamos para dar voz a los silencios de la planificación urbana, identificar las emociones que surgen, diferenciar derechos de privilegios y ser conscientes de qué nos dice la ciudad que habitamos. 🪸Personalmente aprendí: - La ciudad como un libro de historia transitable. - El arte y la naturaleza hacen que los espacios sean más humanos y bellos. - Si como ciudadana no me apropio del espacio público para el bien común, otro lo hará para su propio bien. - No me equivoco al entristecerme por no lograr mirar el cielo tanto como quisiera. Se llama derecho al paisaje. - Recordé porqué estudié “Cambio Climático y Ciudades” allá en el 2020. - La ciudad habla de quiénes la habitan. Una ciudad fragmentada, es una sociedad fragmentada. - Si el arte nos habita, entonces que el hábitat habite el arte. Porque nunca pensé que de una vereda podía hacer un escenario para contar mis cuentos y que en una tarde, la calle se convirtió en océano. - Es increíble cómo espacios físicos nos pueden dar náuseas o hacernos sonreír de verdad, por las memorias y recuerdos que les dimos permiso de albergar; corrijo: por las memorias y recuerdos de los cuales no les podemos separar. Lisboa: Hace exactamente una década organizamos, junto a la Assembleia Popular de Vizinhxs de Graça e Arredores, el llamado PASSEIO DA JANE. Junto al proyecto Mapeamento Coletivo da Graca el objetivo fue pensar colectivamente el barrio y sus alrededores, desarrollando una mirada crítica mediante la creación de una cartografía que desafíe la representación hegemónica del territorio y de un análisis que permita adelantar estrategias de resistencia a procesos excluyentes como la gentrificación.
