Justice League- Legends The story sees the League sent into another dimension where the Justice League has been replaced by the Justice Guild. I really liked the opening, seeing the League fight off a giant robot in the city, one controlled by Lex Luthor. It’s a simple opening but also sets up how exciting the story is gonna be. The action was fun to watch, even if we only started in the middle of the story. I also feel like it sets off the rest of the story nicely with some of the League members supposedly dying in the fight. The story is more complex that initially thought as, the more you watch the story, the more twists and turn come to light and you are constantly thinking that things aren’t what they seem and the reveal was actually pretty upsetting. The design of the parallel universe is pretty good, it’s just like our world but with a more classic feeling, like everything is set during the 1940’s. There’s a really nice charm to this city as everything is really colourful and lively. We also get a really cool host of new heroes and villains, each of them parodying the Justice Society and their villains. I like the uniqueness behind the new characters like the over the top villain Music Master and the various parodies of classic DC villains like Sportsmaster and Icicle. I love the vibrant designs of the Guild heroes, seeing all their colourful costumes. I like the way everyone is characterised, personally I felt all the new heroes were really likable. I think they were super cringy but in a really funny way. Seeing the more serious League heroes interact with their counterparts was really funny as the two groups couldn’t be more opposite to each other. Justice League- Fury The story sees a new and deadly threat recreate the Injustice League in a bid to kill of the worlds men. I like the high staked nature of the story, any episode that has villains working together is always a massive win for me. Seeing the Injustice League back together again was great, and seeing them stronger under their new leader was brilliant too. In their first appearance, they were messy and uncoordinated but now they’re smart, quick and much more deadly. The action is great, the opening fight is brilliant seeing Batman take on the group of villains alone and come out on top, until he meets the woman in charge. Wee also get some pretty creative action pieces with Hawkgirl fighting off Amazonians. I feel like this story is pretty clever, exploring how Wonder Woman reacts to other women who want to attract the attention of men. We get some good ideas, exploring how independent she is and how woman are treated in society. This ties in with the villain pretty well, as she takes Wonder Woman’s ideology to the extreme by wanting to kill of every man alive. Aresia is a really interesting and likable villain and it’s a shame she never came back. I love her motivations, trying to get revenge on men for killing her family. Black History Month 2024 - Day 3: Black Manta Black Manta is a supervillain appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. The character was created by writer Bob Haney and artist Nick Cardy, and debuted in Aquaman #35 (September 1967). Black Manta had no definitive origin story until #6 of the 1993 Aquaman series. In this origin, David Hyde, the African American child who would become Black Manta, grew up in Baltimore, Maryland. As a youth, he was kidnapped and forced to work on a ship, where he was physically abused by his captors. At one point, he saw Aquaman and tried to signal him for help but was not seen. He was forced to defend himself, killing one of his tormentors on the ship with a knife. Hating the emotionless sea and Aquaman, whom he saw as its representative, he was determined to become its master. Taking the name “Black Manta,” he designed a costume (primarily a black wetsuit with a helmet, that was able to shoot rays from its eyes) and fashioned a high-tech submersible inspired by manta rays. Black Manta and Aquaman battled repeatedly over the next several years. His main goals are defeating Aquaman and gaining power for himself through the conquest of Atlantis. Manta killed Arthur Curry Jr., Aquaman’s son, which left Aquaman obsessed with revenge. Black Manta is also the father of Jackson Hyde, known as Aqualad/Aquaman (III). Black Manta possesses a keen scientific mind and is an expert in mechanical engineering. Despite being proficient in hand-to-hand combat and swordsmanship, he generally relies on advanced technology and strategic planning rather than direct physical confrontations. He uses his armored suit that further augments his physical attributes and durability to superhuman levels.
